Fairfield School of Business (FSB), an OFS registered private higher education provider founded in 2006 with campuses in London, Birmingham, Leicester and Luton. We provide industry-relevant qualifications in business and healthcare management, in partnership with leading UK universities.

Our focus is to offer an open and inclusive learning and teaching environment for both students and staff. We are also committed to providing access to higher education to those who may not have formal qualifications, financial means or can commit to the schedule of a mainstream university.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Security Officer on a Full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide a fully comprehensive security service to the college campus. They will also be required to provide additional support with building maintenance activities, departmental coverage (student support etc).

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Security:

  • Provide a professional, effective and competent operational security service to FSB to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, students, visitors and FSB assets
  • Ensure the safety and security of all personal in the campus
  • Carry out regular patrols of all classrooms and FSB premises and record locations and times using Daily Operation Log Book
  • Deal with Lost and Found property in accordance with the FSB policy which will include maintaining the property register, ensuring the safe storage and return of lost property and the disposal of unclaimed property
  • Carry out lock up duties as required
  • Carry out investigations, take statements and provide written reports with regard to breaches of security, incidents, thefts and damage
  • Ensure that detailed, accurate and timely records are kept on all incidents and activities using either paper based or computer based systems
  • Maintain regular communication across all areas of the campus
  • Maintain electrical appliances (lights, computers, air conditioners and ventilations) are ON and OFF based on requirements ensuring they are switched OFF when not required and at the end of the day
  • Challenge individuals in restricted areas who do not have identification and members of staff not wearing ID cards
  • Receive visitors to the campus and ensure they are escorted or directed to the appropriate area of the campus
  • Receive and check deliveries to the campus premises ensuring these are moved to the appropriate storage location or appropriate department as required
  • Assist in the relocation of office equipment and furniture across the campus, in particular during office moves, office functions or seminars. This may involve manual lifting.
  • Ensure that line management are made aware of serious incidents
  • Be accountable for maintaining a current valid SIA licence (Security Guard/Door Supervisor) ensuring it is renewed prior to expiration
  • To support the operations of the building in cleaning, clearing, moving equipment, etc
  • Report any problems/broken items to the Operations Manager
  • Keep front of house areas clean and in good condition including watering of plants when required
  • Undertake duties as assigned or emergency tasks (e.g. shovelling snow or sweeping up broken glass or spillages)
  • Identify and report the need for any major repairs to the Operations Manager

Other Duties

  • Undertake other duties required from time to time by the management of the Campus including assistance/help with different tasks in other departments (such as administration, building maintenance, Student support, overall college operations) as directed by the Operations Manager

N.B. There will be some occasional manual lifting required with this role

Job Requirements

(essential)

  • Previous experience as a security guard including front of house
  • Holder of valid SIA Licence
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team and resolve complaints quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to deal with potential conflict situations escorting unauthorised personnel off from the campus premises expediently and with minimum disruption
  • Ability to deal with external contractors or maintenance workers
  • Ability to carry out manual handling activities

You are also expected to:

  • Observe the clocking system of the School
  • Give good notice of any absence (on the day of absence to call the line manager or other designated person to notify of absence not later than 8.30 am)
  • Keep up to date with developments of the job area.
  • Participate in training activities both in School and at external locations in respect of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in School policies and procedures (e.g. health and safety, equality and diversity etc)
  • Work flexibly and efficiently, maintaining the highest professional standards and promote/implement the policies of the School.
  • To manage and develop the role and responsibilities so as to focus on improving the School services to students and other clients. The postholder should represent and positively market the School at any appropriate opportunity

  • Maintain a high level of security and confidentiality of information in your work at all times
  • Travel to other sites of the School
  • The use of mobile phones are prohibited to use for personal reason without permission during working hours

Job descriptions will be regularly reviewed and at least prior to the annual appraisal, if applicable or on a regular basis to ensure they are an accurate representation of the post.
