Job description
Seafront General Assistant (Seasonal assistant)
If you are passionate about the local environment and the community benefits it provides, then an exciting opportunity exists for you with BCP Council Seafront Operations. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced people to join our Seafront Team.
Positions are now open for application, to work along Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Seafront, as part of our Seafront Operations Team.
You will be required to assist across a number of seafront functions and commercial activities. This is a challenging but rewarding role suited to candidates looking to work in a highly dynamic and varied role with a customer delivery focus. You will work proactively with all members of the public and the wider team, including external agencies and contractors. Enthusiasm and commitment to providing a safe, clean and inclusive seafront is essential. To support this, the position involves engaging with the public on public safety and environmental issues such as litter and ranges from providing tourist information to enforcement of Seafront Bylaws, collecting payments, maximising income and enhancing visitor experience.
As no two days are the same, the dynamic nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial to ensure the appropriate level of support is given to all functions across Seafront Operations, including, but not limited to:
- Car Park Attendant (Boscombe Undercliff car park)
- Cliff Lift Attendant (Bournemouth and Fisherman’s Walk cliff lifts)
- General Assistant (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole seafront)
- Land Train Guard (Bournemouth Seafront and Hengistbury Head nature reserve)
- Maintenance Assistant (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole seafront)
- Pier Toll Attendant (Bournemouth Pier)
Working for Seafront Operations, you will assist in maintaining BCP’s beaches and associated infrastructure to the standards required to attain the international Blue Flag and national Seaside Awards administered by Keep Britain Tidy. In addition, you’ll be expected to support and promote the Council’s Leave Only Footprints initiative.
A disposition to promote high standards of customer care and communication skills is essential for this post. You will be an integral member of the Seafront Operations Team ensuring Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is a great place to live, work and visit.
Successful applicants will work in shifts covering up to 5 days in 7, including some Bank Holidays and weekends on an approximate 37 hours per week basis. The applicant will also be expected to work outdoors for the majority of each shift in order to carry out their duties.
