What we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a lab-based Scientist to join a growing team and contribute to the development of complex iPSC-derived models and the execution of customer projects. An ideal candidate must have a track-record in developing in vitro cell-based assays, preferably related to drug safety and efficacy, including disease modelling studies. Applicants must be able to keep up with the pace of a fast-growing biotech start-up. Key Activities and Responsibilities

· Development, optimisation and validation of robust techniques, protocols and assays for commercial and R&D projects

· Active management of project plans ensuring delivery to deadlines

· Contribute towards and lead, as required, the development of scientific methods and technology

· Supervising team members in defined activities including training, coaching, and mentoring to ensure team objectives are met

· Presentation of results and outcomes to customers and at conferences as required

· Operating and developing quality procedures

· Work across teams to achieve company goals

Person Specification

Essential

· Completion of PhD studies in Biological Sciences or equivalent subject, or 3+ years industry experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical/biotech lab environment

· Prior mammalian cell culture experience

· Experience in cell & molecular biology techniques, including advanced flow cytometry, plate reader-based assays, qPCR, Western Blotting, immunofluorescence and fluorescence microscopy

· Prior experience of developing cell-based in vitro assays

· Must be able to drive troubleshooting activities and process optimisation whilst supporting less experienced personnel

· Track-record of contributing in a team environment

· Demonstrate ability to work independently, develop and implement work plans

· Capability to work in an organised manner, to make critical observations, and to maintain good records of results

· Ability to prioritise a varied workload

· Proficiency in IT systems (Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and statistical analysis

· Good verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work in a flexible manner including weekend working, depending on the demand of client-driven projects

Desirable

· Experience of pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation techniques

· Experience of developing complex in vitro models

· Experience in in vitro drug discovery, toxicology and/or gene therapy

· Experience in retinal models and/or retinal physiology

· Experience of working within formal quality management environment
