Job description
“We are looking for a Scientist to work within the Tuberculosis (TB) Unit Surveillance team to support the collection of high-quality data from the National TB surveillance System database, conduct analysis of data and contribute to the regular dissemination of results through scientific reports and publications.
The TB Unit and National TB Surveillance is responsible for conducting, analysing and reporting national surveillance of TB disease in England and supports the devolved administrations in these functions. The unit also works with partners in NHS England to conduct and report on programmatic latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) screening. This work underpins the delivery of the objectives of the national ‘TB Action Plan 2021-26.
We are looking for a capable, highly motivated person with experience of health data analysis using the principles of reproducible analytical pipelines and statistical analysis software packages (e.g. stata or R) to further the development of quality assurance procedures within the TB unit.“

The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
- You will analyse and interpret scientific data on TB surveillance and produce surveillance or other scientific reports in collaboration with senior staff and external collaborators for a range of audiences, ranging from UKHSA decision makers, government policy-makers, the scientific and medical community to the general public.
- You will work closely with the senior scientist and principal epidemiologist in code-review and the development of reproducible analytical pipeline procedures for data analysis post database extraction.
- You will work closely with the senior scientist and data manager to support the ongoing development and exploitation of the web-based National TB Surveillance System (NTBS) by leading the management of NTBS front-end user needs including training of users and the development and monitoring of quality assurance and data protection procedures.
- You will lead on the production and exploitation of geographical analyses of TB surveillance data by utilising centrally resourced population and geographical datasets and procedures available across UKHSA by working with the relevant teams within Data and Analytics.
- You will support the Senior Scientist in the management of genomic data collected as part of TB surveillance

STAGE 1 - APPLICATION & SIFT:
