Job Title: Engineering/(STEM) Teacher Department: AcademicsReports to: Principal SummaryUnder the direction of the Principal, the Program Director of Engineering will oversee and assist with the planning, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of a school-wide Engineering program.
Additionally, this position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program and the Cisco CyberSecurity Fundamentals pathway. The Engineering Program Director will collaborate with the principal, assistant principal, instructional team, and teachers to plan, organize, and promote interdisciplinary STEM activities and expanded learning opportunities through the integration of successful strategies and multiple technologies. This position will also promote high-tech learning, which will ensure that students gain the necessary edge to compete and succeed in the global economy. Emphasis of all ongoing technology instruction will be in strengthening content learning while utilizing technology to differentiate and enhance student learning.
This position will encourage parent involvement in student learning through open houses, volunteering, parent/teacher conferences, etc., and will promote good community relations among all stakeholders.Primary Roles and ResponsibilitiesAssist in the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of all STEM-related instructional programs, activities and events, including oversight of the PLTW program;Ensure ACHS college preparatory initiatives are being met;Teach designated courses in support of the Engineering, Science, and Math Departments as needed and assigned. Ensure that all engineering activities provide authentic, problem-based curriculum experiences, and address and support school-wide goals and priorities;Collaborate with instructional team, including department chairs, to ensure a consistent, rigorous and equitable educational experience across the school in math, science, and technology education;Coordinate the development and enhancement of STEM curricula for instructional programs, as needed;Provide instructional support to teachers using best practices and research-based instructional methods;Develop and present STEM professional development for teachers including integrating technology into their classes effectively;Develop effective strategies for recruiting students through information sessions, high school fairs and relationships with local elementary/middle schools; Facilitate student participation in national and local math, engineering, cyber security and science organizations and competitions;Coordinate the collection of data to measure the impact of the PLTW and Cisco Programs;Work with the principal and school-based bookkeeper/accountant to prepare necessary reports on expenditures of school funds in accordance with ACHS financial requirements, as needed;Prepare and submit an end-of-year summary report to the CEO/President and the Principal of the PLTW and Cisco programs;Order equipment, supplies and materials for STEM programs including but not limited to PLTW;Coordinate and facilitate STEM Expo, orientations, and other STEM activities for parents and students of interest throughout the school year;Coordinate PLTW Advisory Board meetings as well as other professional development STEM-related workshops or programs; Vet the incoming freshmen interested in engineering;Assess the viability of the classroom and engineering equipment and schedule repairs;Inventory of PLTW Tech as well as computers and computer programming needs (ex. Hardware and software updates or upgrades); Manage CUA student enrollment for senior engineering students;Provide academic and structural support for the CUA/ACHS partnership;Manually set up PLTW and CyberSecurity Fundamentals for day 1 accessibility; Manual input of student information into the PLTW database so that their usernames and passwords are set. Manual data entry of usernames/passwords into ACHS domain that mirror their PLTW usernames/passwords.
Cyber Security Fundamentals setup requires manual input of students emails and other administrative tasks on netacad.comCreate necessary VEX, Robotic and Electronic prototypes for the POE course and the DE course;Coordinate and participate in annual certification requirements for PLTW and Cisco (usually July); Coordinate and facilitate STEM Summer Camps to be held at ACHS in July; and other duties as assigned.Other Requirements: The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the Catholic faith, beliefs and practices along with a thorough understanding of and commitment to the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, and the vision of Archbishop Carroll High School.The candidate must possess a positive attitude; good communication skills, a collaborative leadership style; sensitivity to working in a diverse, multicultural environment.
