We are pleased to be looking for a cook /chef to join are well established catering team at Richmond Hill West Primary school in the Luton area
This is an term time only position, working Monday to Friday.
Job description
To assist and support the Unit Manger with in their role.
Job Purpose: To assist the unit manager to organise and supervise the catering establishment in accordance with and to the standard required by the School Food Support Service. To be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of food. To ensure that efficient and economic use is made of all resources.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To plan, operate and control the production and service of food related duties, to include hospitality catering and the promotion and marketing of the service.

- To supervise catering staff and prepare food for transportation for designated schools within the area.

- To assist in the performance management of the school food cook and the school food assistants at their kitchen.

- To take responsibility for the standard of cleanliness and hygiene of premises and equipment in line with the Food Safety and the Health and Safety Policy.

- To order all food and other commodities required from designated suppliers.
*
- To operate and control stocks and stock records and ensure correct completion of all appropriate records.

- To complete all administration pertaining to the catering operation.
*
- To ensure correct procedures are followed in the handling of cash where appropriate.
*
- To undertake cash handling duties in relation to sales and banking procedures.
*
- To control and assist with any other catering functions.
*
- In conjunction with the School Food Co-ordinator to assess and adjust levels of staffing and to participate in the selection, process for catering staff.
*
- It may be necessary from time to time to work at another school kitchen within a reasonable geographical distance; any such change would be subject to negotiation.

- To undertake any other duties that may be required for the effective operation of the catering establishment.

- To attend meetings and training sessions as required both during term and out of term time by the School Food Support Service.

- To report breakdown of equipment and structural repairs, including food safety hazards, break-ins and accidents and the completion of all relevant documentation.

- To ensure the security of the kitchen including the associated stores and surrounds.
*
- To carry out a deep clean of the kitchen/dining room on 3 specified out of term time cleaning days.

Monday to Friday 7.30am - 3pm on occasions some outside of these hours working
SPECIAL FACTORS:
When requested by senior management or other County Council designated Emergency Planning Officers, take an active role in emergency alerts or exercises
Subject to the duration of the need, the special conditions given below apply:
(a) The nature of the work may involve the postholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours.
(b) The postholder may be required to attend, from time to time, training courses, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by his/her own training needs and the needs of the service.
(c) Expenses will be paid in accordance with the Local Conditions of Service.
(d) This post is subject to a check being carried out at an Enhanced level by the Criminal Records Bureau regarding any previous criminal record.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications
City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or Vocational NVQ.
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate
Experience/Skills
Previous large scale cooking experience.
Operating commercial catering equipment.
Reasonable level of numeracy and literacy skills.
Experience of cooking in a school environment.
Ability to lead and motivate a team.
Supervision of employees
Knowledge
Basic knowledge of Food Safety / Health and Safety.
General knowledge of nutrition.
Attributes

Good rapport with Children and Young People.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Must have a mature attitude and be reliable.
