Job summary
Victoria College seeks to appoint a motivated, experienced and qualified School Counsellor to provide specialist support to students and their families, in order to address emotional and associated behavioural difficulties through assessment, counselling, individual and group work and so be able to support the students' specific needs.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
To assess the level of need of pupils and their families who fall within the mental health perspective of need in order to supply them with the appropriate emotional guidance and support or to refer them on to other agencies.
To provide individual, family, group counselling and support for pupils and their families, whose assessed needs require specific intervention. To undertake preventative action work in order to alleviate problems and to promote positive mental health. This provision to be flexible to meet need outside the school day or school term.
To provide guidance and clinical support within the school to staff to a level which enables them to work effectively with pupils with problems to assist with the professional development of staff by providing relevant CPD.
To take a lead in the assessment and management of critical incidents which affect the mental health of pupils in the school and to plan the way forward. To participate in continuing research to monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided and assess further developmental need.
To prepare assessments/reports for the Courts, Probation and After Care Service and Educational Reviews to provide clear information for decision making by other agencies. To work as part of a multi-agency team and other external agencies in order for the team to develop management strategies for students with problems or in need
To liaise with associated primary schools and further educational establishments to provide continuity of support and monitor transition arrangements for pupils deemed to be at risk.
To establish and maintain an interactive data base which records all relevant details associated with case management. To ensure that this information is easily accessible to appropriate agencies
To work collaboratively with members of the Guidance Team to support and meet needs of students.
