School Counsellor Part-time hours during term time 4 days per week

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a qualified counsellor to join Merchant Taylors’ School, Liverpool. Based in Crosby, our historic school celebrates more than 400 years of educating children of the North West. We have three sites i) Stanfield, our mixed primary school for children aged 4 – 11 ii) Senior Boys aged 11 – 18 and iii) Senior Girls aged 11- 18 all within a few minutes’ walk from each other.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing individual and group counselling to pupils of the School who have been referred by the pastoral team to the counselling service. Reporting into the Assistant Head – Pastoral, you will work closely with other colleagues in the School counselling service, members of the School pastoral team and the School Nurse in order to ensure the wellbeing of pupils is paramount. You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable in relating to young people. You should also be able to demonstrate that you are experienced in counselling children of school age. An understanding of safeguarding requirements and legislation in schools would also be helpful.

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:
- The provision of a safe environment in which children and young people feel heard
- Being aware of the indicators of abuse and neglect
- Ensuring vigilance in recognising changes in behaviour or mood
- Reporting safeguarding concerns in line with the School’s Safeguarding Children and Child Protection Policy
- Attending Safeguarding training and updates as requested by the School
The duties of this role meet the definition of regulated activity relevant to children and an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list is appropriate.
