YES, is a youth focused charity offering support and advice on a range of issues from benefits and family crisis, housing and homelessness, teenage pregnancy, and mental health counselling. The charity has been supporting young people in the North East Essex area for nearly 35 years and has a recognised and respected reputation. The charity delivers support to young people in one of the most socially and economically deprived areas of the UK.
We have a new exciting opportunity where we are working with a number of schools across Colchester and Tendring and we are looking for counsellors who are trained to work with young people who will be employed by us on a term time contract. 39 weeks per annum. You will need to have a drivers license and be willing to travel in both the Colchester and Tendring districts to your designated school. We are looking for Counsellors who can commit at least 1 day a week where you will see 5 students each day.
For qualified counsellors, this is a paid role of £15 per session, we need you to be a registered member of the BACP or equivalent and be qualified to at least a diploma level.
1. To provide counselling for young people in accordance with YES Policies and Procedures.
2. To work within the BACP Ethical Framework for counsellors.
4. To attend monthly supervision provided by the Youth Enquiry Service.
5. To be an active member of the Counselling Team and contribute to personal and Service development through regular meetings.
6. To attend training days provided, including mandatory Child Protection Training and to be mindful of confidentiality in this connection.
7. Maintain case files and adhere to systems for collating statistical and evidence-based information for monitoring reports.
8. To be reliable and punctual, making every effort to inform the Counselling Team as soon as possible if you are unable to make your Scheduled appointments.
9. To be responsible for contacting clients by phone or email where appropriate.
10. To liaise with the Counselling Manager about contact with other professionals where necessary.
11. To comply with Health and Safety in accordance with work role and to be mindful of situation specific risk assessments.
12. Work with an awareness and understanding of equal opportunities and cultural diversity.
Essential skills
* Qualified Counsellor – Diploma level or above.
* BACP registered or equivalent
* Ability to work in challenging situations and deal with high levels of anxiety
* Motivated, flexible and enthusiastic in their approach
* Ability to interpret situations and react accordingly
* Ability to work using own personal initiative and professional judgement
* Good listening skills, clear thinking and sense of perspective
* Excellent communication skills both written and oral

* Organised approach to record keeping and administration
* Experience of working with young people
