Job description

Standard of Cleaning Required

Floors to be cleaned daily

  • Carpeted Floors

Vacuum clean means, clean all exposed carpeted surfaces including loose fitted mats and rugs. Remove dust and dirt from behind doors, clean out corners and under furniture and radiators. Spot clean soiled carpet areas. The output requirement or standard is that the entire floor area should be free from dust, stains, refuse particles, fluff, soil and spillages.

  • Hard Floors

Mop sweep means, clean using dust control mop sweeper including cleaning out corners and under all furniture, radiators and movable objects. The output requirement or standard is that the entire floor area should be free from dust, stains, refuse particles, fluff, soil and spillages.

Spray/clean means, apply appropriate spay/clean solution to floor using hand held or machine attachment and buff floor surface to provide a clean shiny finish. The output requirement or standard is that the entire floor area should have a uniform gloss appearance without scuffmarks or streaks.

Damp mop means clean, after mop sweeping, using mop and bucket containing clean water and an appropriate cleaning solution. Floors should be left in a dry condition. The output requirement or standard is that the entire floor area should have a clean uniform appearance and be free of streaks.

Fixtures and Fittings

  • Damp wiping of surfaces should include the use of clean water and an appropriate cleaning solution should be used.

Fixtures and fittings where specified include: Skirting boards, window ledges, glazing bars, sills, architraves, pipework, radiators and covers, balustrades, handrails, notice boards, other vertical work surfaces, surfaces of desks and tables, wall mounted light fittings, beams, girders, conduit, pegs, towel dispensers and the like.

  • Damp wipe and dust fixtures and fittings up to a height of 2 metres from floor level. The output requirement or standard is that all surfaces should be free from dust, dirt, spillages and finger marks. The base of the furniture must be free from dirt and dust build up.
  • Damp wipe and dry polish doors and door glass and side panels to include removal of finger marks. N.B. To include both sides of any entrance doors and side panels. Furniture

  • Damp wiping of surfaces should include the use of water and an appropriate cleaning solution.
  • Furniture where specified includes: Benches, bookcases, book shelves, chairs, clocks, coat stands, coffee tables, cupboards, filing cabinets, lockers, ornaments, pictures, shelves, Venetian blinds and the like.
  • Damp wipe/dust all furniture to a height of 2 metres from floor level if left free from encumbrance. The output requirement or standard is that all surfaces should be free from dust, dirt, smudges and fingermarks. The base of the furniture must be free from dirt and dust build up.
  • Polish all desks, tables and chairs and other wooden furniture to a height of 2 metres from floor level if left free from encumbrance. The output requirement or standard is that surfaces should be free from dust, dirt, films and streaks.

Miscellaneous items

  • Empty all waste bins, baskets and containers. Dispose of waste to point on a site nominated by the school. The output requirement or standard is that all waste is removed to a designated area, liners replaced where applicable and outside surfaces are free from dust, dirt, particles and spillages.
  • Wash out waste and pedal bins using a solution of germicidal detergent and water. The output requirement or standard is that all waste is removed to a designated area, liners replaced where applicable and outside surfaces are free from dust, dirt, particles and spillages.

  • Remove chewing gum and graffiti using appropriate solution and/or scraper from all surfaces up to a height of 2 metres from floor level.

Walls and Partitions

  • Damp wipe tiled wall areas from floor level to a height if 2 metres using a germicidal detergent. The output requirement or standard is that all surfaces should be free from soiling, dust, smears and streaks.
  • Scuff marks to be removed using clean water and an appropriate cleaning solution.

Stairs

These are term time roles working Monday to Friday from 4.30am to 8.30am and/or 3pm to 7pm (flexible working arrangements are negotiable), 39 weeks per annum. The full time equivalent annual salary is £19,239. This will be pro rated subject to the agreed working hours.
