Job Description for School Cleaner
Job Title: School Cleaner
School: Burrough Green CE Primary
Reports to: Cleaner in Charge and School Secretary
Grade:
Hours per week: 12.5 hours per week, term time plus
JOB: To provide a cleaning service for a specified educational establishment.
Duties may include working in all types of rooms, including offices, classrooms, hall, corridors, and toilets.
Main Responsibilities and tasks:
The normal duties of the postholder will usually include the following:
1. To be responsible for cleaning certain parts of the school site as allocated by the Cleaner in
Charge.
2. To use cleaning materials as instructed by the Cleaner in Charge.
3. To operate cleaning machinery in cleaning soft and hard surfaces, eg. vacuum cleaners and polishers.
4. Duties to include the following:
- Vacuum cleaning hard and soft floors
- Spot cleaning of spillages
- Wiping furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass
- Emptying and cleaning bins
- Cleaning toilets including sanitary fittings and surrounds
- Mopping and spray cleaning hard floor surfaces
- Wiping and polishing and straightening furniture
- Replenishing janitorial supplies in toilets, etc
- Checking and closing windows, switching off lights after work
- Such other duties as may be allocated from time to time
- All defects/hazards must be immediately reported to the Cleaner in Charge or School
Secretary
Notes: During periods when the school is closed, routine cleaning is undertaken throughout the school.
Health and Safety
- Comply with the requirements of Health and Safety at Work regulations
- Take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of yourself and others, including adherence to ‘lone working’ guidelines
- Cooperate with the school to ensure that Health and Safety responsibilities are carried out
- Perform duties in line with health and Safety and COSHH regulations and take action where hazards are identified, reporting serious hazards immediately to the Head teacher or other senior person
Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 12.5 per week
Salary: £10.50 per hour
