Project Planner (Inside IR35)
Contract Term:12 months – possibility of extension
Contracting Authority: Ministry of Defence
Location: Remote working with occasional travel to Porton Down site

As a Project Planner, your main responsibilities would be:
Duties:
· Experience of working as a Project Planner or who has held a similar role within a project team with good knowledge of project planning, a PMO or as a Project Manager or Work stream Lead of a small project.
· An effective communicator who can tailor their approach to the varied nature of the Portfolio.
· Delivery & Leadership – act as the point of contact for Digital PMO on planning activity and work with the portfolio to support delivery of the business case benefits and outcomes. Support capability building and the use of best practice in planning and reporting. Provide expert advice for team members and project community.
· Project Planning – Challenge and test project assumptions to ensure that plans are realistic and achievable. Develop of breakdown structures, quality criteria, product descriptions and monitoring strategy. Support the project manager to identify options to optimise delivery through resource smoothing, resource levelling and rescheduling of activities.
· Resources – Manage portfolio planning; identify and plan for wider resource requirements for the project, feeding into the leadership team as appropriate.
· Dependency Management - Develop, track, maintain and report on dependencies across projects and programmes within the Digital portfolio and against Digital and Dstl strategy
· Stakeholder Management – working with the Digital Change Lead, ensure that effective stakeholder management processes and ways of working are adopted, specifically confirming that responsibilities and needs are understood and addressed via reporting arrangements. Develops peer networks across the department.
· Project Performance & Controls – Monitor and analyse information, reporting progress, slippage and highlighting areas of risk and opportunity.
· Guidance & Support – Provide expert advice on planning processes across the Digital portfolio.
Essential:
· Full knowledge of project lifecycle and experience of working in a P3 environment
· Solid understanding of milestones, dependencies plans and schedules.
· Stakeholder engagement including reporting, communicating, and influencing across all levels of the business.
· Ability to use MS Office Applications (Strong knowledge and experience of MS Excel)
· Working in a fast-paced delivery environment

· PRINCE 2
Desirable:
· Familiarity of Government, Defence or security sector
· Experience of practical dependency and output management within a P3 environment
· Experience of working as a Project Planner or has held a role with a project team with good working knowledge of project planning.
