Main Purpose of the Role
To administer the SAP system / instances and ensure that the SAP environment is robust. To develop and test the SAP systems and associated interfaces, outputs and reporting as per user requirements and in support of projects.


Position in Organisation

Works as part of the IT SAP team, reporting in to the Head of SAP with no direct reports. Responsible for providing advice and technical support to the business on SAP related issues.


Dimensions, Authority & Risk

Responsible for ensuring high quality SAP support is delivered to all Business Units.
Required to administer and implement upgrades to SAP and all development projects on SAP as required.
Responsible for administering security on the SAP and legacy systems and ensuring that Unipart Rail does not exceed the allocated SAP licenses. Responsible for the management and performance of the overnight schedule in SAP and for helping to maintain SAP to PWC guidelines and ensure best practice.


Management Of People & Advisory

No direct reports but is expected to provide expert guidance on the SAP and Legacy Rail applications to Unipart Rail staff and customers as required.
Responsible for managing and monitoring all interfaces to and from SAP and the Legacy Rail system. Coaching / training will be delivered typically to support projects as required – technical function training to SAP users.


Key Relationships

To work with the SAP Manager and the SAP Team to ensure that the SAP environment is robust.

To liaise with Unipart and the rest of the Unipart Rail SAP team regarding any SAP developments and initiatives that can be shared. Responsible for maintaining good communication and relationships with all internal and external customers to ensure visibility of the status of all project work and also of any disruptions to the SAP and Legacy Rail services.


Freedom To Act & Direction Received

Role is required to manage the Legacy Rail systems. Responsible for keeping the Head of SAP informed of the status / issue with the SAP instances. Also responsible for the day to day running of all SAP instances and logging all issues on the help desk. Jobholder to raise any problems to the IT Director in the absence of the Head of SAP.


Spread Of Skills & Analysis Required

Jobholder is required to work with our internal customers to determine their requirements and then find acceptable solutions in SAP. Solutions may come from talking to other SAP colleagues, Unipart SAP team at Cowley or independent research along with initiative and own judgement as how to best resolve. It is important that solutions identified meet both the user requirements, whilst at the same time do not damage other processes. Also, to support testing, training and data requirements.


Pressure & Working Environment

Jobholder is required to maintain high availability of the SAP and legacy systems. Also, to support all SAP projects, especially SAP migrations, which are complex and difficult projects which generates a lot of pressure, with tight deadlines. Located in an open plan office with occasional travel to other sites within the UK.


Qualifications & Education

Essential: Educated to at least A Level standard

Desirable: HND / Degree in computer studies or related subject


Experience & Proven Ability Required

  • Experience in multiple SAP function modules SD, MM, FI, WM & PP
  • Ability to review and make recommendations/improvements to new/existing business processes

Duties & Key Responsibilities

SAP SUPPORT: 60%

  • Responsible for ensuring high quality SAP support is delivered to all business unit
  • Resolve SAP help desk jobs in-line with service level agreement
  • Experience in SAP configuration, access sequence, forms, pricing procedure etc
  • Maintain secure user access by controlling authorisation through correct escalation procedures
  • Provide support to SAP interfacing systems (Remote WH etc.)
  • Responsible for ensuring high quality SAP support is delivered to all business units
  • Required to help on all development projects on the SAP system

TRAINING: 5%

  • Provide SAP training/SOPs

RESOLUTION / PREVENTION OF ISSUES: 15%

  • Liaise with 3rd party support with regards to incidents and RFC’s
  • Carry out /Co-ordinate testing/documentation for SAP upgrades and system developments
  • Develop new/enhance existing SAP developments and solutions to meet business requirements
  • Translation of user requirements into functional specifications
  • Resolve SAP help desk jobs in-line with service level agreements

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: 10%

  • Responsible for using the Unipart Way to find robust solution to issues.

HEALTH & SAFETY: 10%

  • Work in a safe manner, taking reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other people at work, following appropriate Health and Safety guidance, training and company rules and procedures as appropriate.
