Freelance Marketing Assistant - Job Specification
Reason for the role :
To help grow the business by raising awareness of Silver Websites through relationship building and other marketing activities - all with a view to assist with the acquisition of new clients; giving an ability to earn commission in addition to hourly rates.
They would be the “face of Silver Websites” for their local area. Area ideally higher population density to allow for more opportunities (e.g. Milton Keynes or Northampton).
Primary tasks :
Attend and be active member of a local networking group including 121s with key contacts.
Social media activities - engaging with local Social media groups, commenting on posts, creating and posting content.
Proactive contacting potential clients looking at local magazines etc. and their own contact circles (school parents etc.)
Using shared CRM software or shared spreadsheet to track meetings, lead progress and help with organisation. All related communication material to be via shared Google Drive folder.
A dedicated email address (e.g. [email protected]) and business cards and marketing material with their name on will all be provided.
Remote working with regular Zoom meetings.

Description of ideal customers and service :
We are aiming at Marketing Managers or Office Managers for small professional businesses (e.g. solicitors firms or accounting firms) where the Marketing Manager has been tasked with getting the website sorted along with everything else that he/she needs to do. The service we provide is a fully managed website, i.e. build, design, host, site maintenance along with 3 hours a month on a retainer for website amendments (content changes etc.) and SEO (search engine optimisation) to help grow the site.
Example client avatars :
Partner of tradesman (blinds fitter, electrician etc.). In charge of the admin and marketing and booking calls and diary etc. and so on. Not skilled at technical stuff. Possibly in charge of a small team as it expanded. Probably part of a women’s group. 40+ years old, female.
Partner of a solicitor or legal expert or professional service (wills etc.). Director of the firm and in charge of sales/marketing and account management. 40+ years old, female.
Trustee on a committee for a local community organisation or non-profit (e.g. a village hall). Some tech knowledge. Been tasked with setting up and running the website but not sure how to. In their 50s, some spare time dedicate to charity.
Working hours & pay :
4 days a month (28 hours pcm (with potential for more in the future or as agreed)).
Initially on a 6 month trial, then on a 3 month rolling contract.
On a freelance self-employed basis (you are responsible for accounting for your own tax)
£15 an hour plus commission on sales as below.
Annual commission plan available after £5,000 project income (self-generated) - payable at 10% of project income. Includes 10% of hosting, 10% of build and that first months retainer as commission (based on a minimum 12 month contract) - payable only during contractor agreement period.
Commission Example :
5 page website with hosting and 3 hours a month retainer :
£360 hosting annual fee
£1,200 build
£150 pcm retainer
Possible commission £36 + £120 + £150 = £306.
Contractor Agreement to be signed which will include non-disclosure agreement and agreement that they won’t supply overlapping services to any competing businesses, i.e. website or marketing/software agencies. Can work elsewhere in non-competing business providing they can devote the time to this role.
Needs to supply their own laptop and pay their own expenses (N.B. cost of any networking meeting will be paid as an expense either direct by us or once copy invoice submitted provided you attend solely to represent Silver Websites).
Need to follow our online/security policies.
Qualifications :
5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grade C or above to include Maths and English
