Job description

We’ve got an exciting brand new opportunity for you to join the Starbucks UK health and safety team as our safety manager supporting our store development and equipment commercialisation across the UK. This is a great opportunity for someone to come in and help us build this area from the ground up. You’ll get involved in creating policies and processes, delivering training on best practices as well as providing professional health and safety support and advice to our partners (employees) and supporting us in meeting our strategic goals as well as all regulatory requirements. You’ll also get involved in any crisis management, investigations and action management for your areas.

Working with our store development team, you’ll also support on new store openings as well as updates to our existing stores. This will see you identify engineering solutions to remove any safety issues, including completing schematic reviews for and on areas of improvement. Alongside this you’ll also oversee safety reviews of new equipment, representing safety on the non-food commercialisation team and consulting with our retail safety team.

To be successful for the role, you’ll have previous experience safety management in a store development environment. We’re looking for candidates who have a diploma (or equivalent qualification) in health and safety from a recognised qualification route, as well as qualifications in fire safety and construction. Building relationships with our partners and suppliers is key for this role, alongside your ability to prioritise work efficiently considering any emergency situations. It would be great if you have previous experience of writing policies and processes as well given the importance of this within the role.

  • As our safety manager for store development and equipment commercialisation, you’ll get involved in:
  • Analysing data and identifying opportunities for store fire safety standards and store development safety standards.
  • Being our business fire safety competent person and managing our relationship with the external fire safety contractors.
  • Collaborating with our retail operations team on any EHO/Fire Officer actions
  • Providing support to H&S function, store and district managers on store development and fire safety related queries and issues.
  • Making sure all H&S related complaints, relevant to store development, are fully investigated, tracked, and resolved on a timely basis. Identifying trends and advising the business on future mitigation.
  • Attending meetings with external regulatory bodies, suppliers and other third parties to represent Starbucks from a H&S store development perspective.
  • Leading the development and management of the Construction/Facilities safety reporting tool and investigation process.
  • Overseeing and managing key store development contractors for H&S.
  • Providing H&S technical support to store development team – building regs, fire safety order, H&S regulations.
