Established in 2015 and building on more than 60 years of engineering excellence, 2Excel Engineering is a Maintenance and Repair Organisation (MRO) based in Hampshire, delivering service-orientated narrow body Boeing and Airbus maintenance to Operators and Owners, Leasing Companies and Governments.
We are seeking a Safety Manager - Aviation to join our team. Reporting to the Accountable Manager, the Safety Manager is the focal point for running, developing, and improving the Company’s mature Safety Management System. Joining a company with a mature, approved SMS system you will be managing a team of Safety Officers and Representatives across the business, you will drive their maintenance of risk registers; extract insight from performance and third-party data; recommend and generate Safety Activities, communicating effectively internally and externally and representing the Company during Authority Audits and Inspections.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Line Management to the and Health and Safety Officer and Safety Investigator;
- Manage the Safety Management System;
- Provide regular briefings to the Accountable Manager and Board;
- Manage and run regular Safety Action Group and Safety Review Board meetings on behalf of the Accountable Manager;
- Managing occurrence classification, investigation, reporting and the implementation of resultant risk mitigation
- Oversight of the evaluation of safety-related hazards, risks and risk mitigations, reducing our risk to as low as reasonably practical;
- Lead the SMS Representatives and champion our Safety Culture;
- Maintain and develop company manuals and policy to achieve the standards of safety set out by the business.
- Support, mentor and facilitate all of our Safety Activities;
- Support the strategic development of our Safety Policy and associated business processes, interfacing with functional business areas where appropriate;
- Understand and implement all relevant functional safety standards, including keeping up to date with the latest best practice and changes to relevant safety legislation and standards;
- Building relationships with stakeholders at all levels, identifying education and training needs and driving the implementation of changes;
- Monitoring and evaluating safety performance indicators for line of business and projects in order to produce insightful management information and safety action plans;
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Demonstrable understanding and experience of aviation, preferably in maintenance;
- Demonstrable understanding of, and skills in, aviation-related safety management;
- Demonstrably capable IT skills;
- Experienced at complex risk assessment and management;
- Experience of leading or taking part in occurrence investigations;
- Good written and verbal communicator with experience of persuading and influencing Company senior management and the Regulators (CAA and EASA);
- A strong analytical approach;
- Comfortable with predicting a range of outcomes and justifying the actions necessary to achieve them.
Desirable:
- Experience of using Centrik software;
- Recognised safety management qualification;
- Experience in Performance Based Oversight;
- Previous experience and responsibility for aviation safety in a Part 145 organisation;
- Proven experience of working with Safety policies and processes covering functional safety;
- Experience of leading or taking part in External/Internal Safety Audits;
- Experience of building effective close working relationships both internal and externally to influence safety culture and challenge ways of working.
