Food Safety Manager
We are currently looking to fill permanent a full-time position for a Food Safety Manager for our Farms operations in our Leamington, ON location.
The Food Safety Manager is responsible for keeping continuous policies and standard operating procedures up to date, executing employee training, organizing audits and ensuring that all locations are meeting Nature Fresh Food standards.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Leads the culture development of Food Safety Fundamentals, the Food Safety Plan, the Quality System, the Organic Production/Handling Plan for all Nature Fresh Farm & Ketler Farm locations.
- Engaging (work cross-functionally with) internal stakeholders to identify and establish Food Safety practices across all sites, identifying short and long-term risks, barriers, opportunities, and areas of support where needed.
- Evaluating current practices, opportunities, and industry trends, presenting them to the Senior Director of Production for review.
- Creating evaluation metrics, collecting data, and preparing reports that measure the impact and effectiveness of the Nature Fresh Food Safety program, communicating results to management.
- Determining the ROI of Food Safety initiatives according to the costs of business activities.
- Facilitates communication related to the continued improvement and maintenance of operational systems pertaining to Food Safety compliance.
- Continuously reviews policies and standard operating procedures to ensure locations are compliant and collaborates with the Corporate Food Regulations Liaison.
- Oversees and evaluates the training of all employees concerning food safety, organic production/handling and social responsibility.
- Organizes and leads all third-party audits to ensure continued compliance with various authorities. Keeps company certificates up to date at all times.
- Performs regular reviews with functional staff to evaluate requirements and proactively identifies compliance deficiencies ensuring they are resolved appropriately.
- Works with Management to make adjustments and corrections to ensure all locations are following Nature Fresh set standards.
- Ensures system verifications, microbiological tests, internal audits, internal training are judicially completed on time according to the annual verification schedule.
- Development and Implementation of Food Safety related company policies and standard operating procedures.
- Performing other duties or projects the Company may assign from time to time as required.
Job Requirements:
- 3 years’ experience in a Quality Assurance, Quality Control or Regulatory Affairs role in Food/Food Processing, Pharmaceutical (OTC) or Health and Nutritional industry would be preferred.
- Skills to interpret regulatory, industry, customer and internal documentation and the ability to convey the requirements to all Company stake holders. Strong technical writing skills.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office Applications and experience in document design.
- Strong verbal communication skills; able to communicate professionally with internal and external team members.
- Excellent time management and organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, has a sense of urgency to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Good teamwork; able to work with employees at all levels and across all departments in a collaborative manner.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a high degree of discretion and confidentiality regarding employee and company-related matters.
- Flexibility to change with new information and adapt to changing conditions and obstacles.
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required.
- Ability and willingness to cross US/Canada borders. Valid passport required.
- Spanish is an asset but not required.
Working Conditions:
- The warehouses may be hot, cold, or humid, at any time during the production season.
- Working with a wide array of people and cultures in a team setting, these include local employees, temporary foreign workers, growers, management, maintenance, HR, etc.
- Available to work Monday through Saturday; flexibility is required to meet the changes in production levels. Hours will fluctuate according to the ongoing needs of the business.
Salary: Based on experience.
