Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Safety, Health & Environment, you will be an integral member of the team responsible for safeguarding the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and visitors through active partnership with the site leadership team. You will provide the subject-matter expertise, leadership and coaching to build safety & health capability within our organisation, engaging and motivating our people to help them transform our business to a sustainably safe place to work which we can be proud of.
Working closely with both the operational team and wider British Sugar Safety & Health team, you will play an important role by providing insight and challenge about safety performance, supporting the identification of key risks, assisting in the development of pragmatic and flexible solutions, and helping to embed safety & health at the heart of our business culture.
Core Accountabilities
- Partner and build trusted relationships, understand business goals and challenges and effectively coach, mentor and support our line leaders to build capability and transform our operational culture.
- Lead by example, demonstrating safe behaviours and the British Sugar values and safety & health principles.
- Provide competent advice and support to leadership teams to enable them to deliver continuous performance improvement and ongoing legal compliance.
- Support the incident investigation process, mitigating liability risk and preventing recurrence through root cause analysis and sharing of learnings.
- Identify, develop, and implement S&H focused solutions which meet the needs of the business.
- Act as a key liaison with external bodies, supporting our leadership teams to maintain the ethical, professional and competent perception of the business and acting as an ambassador, both externally and within Associated British Foods.
- Support and lead monitoring and auditing activities to ensure standards are maintained and objectives effectively met.
- Develop, support & deliver S&H training in conjunction with the learning & development team.
- Proactively contribute to the ongoing development and execution of the safety & health strategy both at site and across the business.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
- Strong communication & coaching skills
- Health and Safety Level 6 or NEBOSH Diploma qualified
- Experience within a manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with ISO45001, ideally lead auditor trained
- Good IT skills, ideally familiarity with EcoOnline (Alcumus) InfoExchange
- Comfortable working on own initiative and also as part of a team.
