- Hybrid working with two days a week in either Ipswich or Great Wenham office.
Babergh and Mid-Suffolk District Councils are going through an exciting period of change, with the creation of a new Compliance Team within our Housing Directorate.
The Compliance Team will oversee the management and maintenance of the key compliance areas of gas, electrical, asbestos, fire, lifts and water hygiene as well as play a pivotal role in the management of damp and mould.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a Health and Safety Manager (Assurance) to join our new team, reporting directly to the Head of Investment and Compliance. You will share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Investment and Compliance you will be responsible for providing specialist advice and support on health and safety matters for housing, property construction and asset management to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legal obligations.
You will:
- be responsible for producing a suite of compliance key performance information and Health and Safety information to provide assurance for compliance across all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- ensure that health and safety and CDM arrangements are in place for all relevant programmes and projects, including minor and major construction projects.
- also manage a Compliance Coordinator who will support and assist you in the delivery of this service.
About you
You must hold a degree in a relevant subject area (Building Construction / Building Surveying or a related subject) or have gained significant knowledge through experience and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the general principles of building construction and regulations.
You will:
- possess a NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, a NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management or IOSH Fire Safety for Managers, and an IOSH CDM regulations training certificate or equivalent.
- also possess, or be willing to study towards, a NEBOSH National Certificate in Health and Safety Management for Construction, P405 – Management of Asbestos in Buildings, Bohs level 4 in legionella control, and an HHSRS training certificate.
- be required to make site visits in a large, rural area, so access to personal transport and a valid driving licence will be necessary.
