Running Wardrobe Manager

Reports to: Head of Wardrobe

Salary: £11.42 per hour

Contract: Permanent, 40 hours per week (over 6 days, including weekend & evening work)

The Running Manager will be responsible for liaising with touring companies, Production Managers and Head of Wardrobe to full fill the needs of the costume requirements of the shows in performance. Leading the dressing and laundry team to participate in the smooth running of rehearsals and productions.

The Role

This role will require work in the evenings and weekends, with longer days during technical rehearsals and pre-views. Computer skills and a friendly approachable disposition are essential.

  • Manage the Dressing & Laundry team, ensuring a supportive environment where everyone feels empowered to work to their best ability.
  • Check the Ryders for upcoming productions, calling the appropriate staff to meet the requirements.
  • Ensure calls are sent out in time to have the best team representing Theatre Royal Plymouth.
  • Ensure staff have a proper break between work, so they have a good work life balance.
  • Perform a dressing role.
  • Check all timesheets against the calls in time for Focal Point deadlines.
  • Set up quick change areas with the Senior Dresser, in and around the performing space.
  • Overview all dressing rooms at the beginning of each run, checking in with Estates for repairs and maintenance.
  • To write up clear concise costume plots, that can be handed over to the next venue.
  • Responsible for organising dry cleaning for a show if applicable.
  • The ability to fix and repair costumes to a high level.
  • The ability to work with the stage team and help maintain the stage masking as required.
  • Ensure all equipment entering the building meets the safety standards set out in the H&S regulations.
  • To attend and contribute to training sessions and meetings as required by the department.
  • To keep the Head of Technical informed at all times of issues that may affect the smooth operating of the production.
  • Flexibility to work over a six-day period including weekends and evening work. This will include working across both sites, TRP & TR2.
  • To work in a co-operative manner with all staff within and outside the organisation.

  • Competent sewing skills to fix and make costumes.
  • Good organisation, time management and IT skills.
  • Ensure good housekeeping in all relevant areas.
  • Participate in costume work at TR2
