What does Excellence look like in this role?
The Fabric Technician is the main person who will have contact with the end users or main customers. They provide knowledge of the Building Fabric industry to the customer and ensure that a first class service is given always to the customer ensuring their premises are secure and safe at all times. The Fabric Technician will apply their skill and technical knowledge to a range of different situations that require previous experience and judgement in order to solve fabric related problems or to ensure completion of projects.
The Fabric Technician always abides by safe working practices, through consistent adherence to Health and Safety training and company policies. Work completed within the Fabric Technician’s area will be delivered on time, within budget, and with no harm to other employees, customers or the public.
Who will this role work with to achieve excellence?
- The role of Fabric Technician will work closely with their colleagues, with other Building Engineering Technicians and Asset Technicians across the business, and with Fabric Team Managers.
- The Fabric Technician works tirelessly to ensure delivery of customer requirements, and manage customer expectations with honesty and integrity at all times, upholding the values of the company
- The Fabric Technician works closely with RMPFS support functions to deliver customer requirements. These include, but are not limited to, Health and Safety, Finance and Purchasing.
What needs to be done in this role to achieve this?
- Working independently, co-ordinating efforts of other RMPFS colleagues and contractors so that contracts and tasks are delivered.
- Cost control of material spends and sub-contractor usage to ensure the Product stays within budget.
- Feedback to Team Manager and customer, status of project or work so that both are fully aware of the progress to date.
- Ensure full compliance with RMPFS health and safety policies and procedures to ensure safety of colleagues, customers and the public.
- Promote a ‘right first time’ approach
- Balance own priorities and workload in order to ensure customer objectives are achieved and contractual obligations met.
- Working in a structured, tidy fashion, observing all health and safety legislation and required operating standards.
- Ensure effective communication with all RMPFS departments to get jobs done on time and to correct specification.
What technical knowledge, skills and experience is required?
- Must be computer literate particularly in electronic management systems and email.
- Effective communication skills being able to actively listen and transmit important messages to the customer.
- Liaise with customers at all levels being able to understand customer requirements.
- Sound knowledge and practical experience of carpentry and wet trades
- Practical experience in building fabric maintenance
- Knowledge of Building Fabric product
- A full UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points
