Position: Mechatronics Engineer

Responsibilities will include:

  • Design and develop mechatronic systems, including selecting appropriate mechanical components, sensors, actuators, and electronic components to meet project requirements.

  • Provide a critical link in the integration of mechanical, electrical and software components across a product.

  • Applying analysis outputs to demonstrate compliance with safety, functional and performance requirements.

  • Sensor configuration and calibration.

  • PLC and embedded programming for closed loop control based on system requirements.

  • Knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle and an ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work.

  • Able to implement the detailed design solutions using CAD and PLM to ensure all details of design and installation.

  • Develop and implement control algorithms and software to regulate the behaviour of mechatronic systems, enabling precise and efficient operation.

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in mechatronic systems and provide ongoing maintenance and support to ensure proper functionality.

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, and software developers, to achieve project goals.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechatronics and related fields and apply innovative solutions to enhance product performance and capabilities.

  • Assist with production of Bill of Materials/part creation.

  • Hardware and software commissioning and testing.


Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.

  • Experience in the design and development of mechatronic systems.

  • Process instrumentation and sensor selection based on system requirements.

  • Solid working knowledge of modern control theory and its application in mechatronic systems.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality results.



Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience in condition-based monitoring systems and data acquisition systems.

  • Awareness of noise rejection and immunity techniques in data acquisition.

  • Experience with fluid power systems, electrical actuators, and servo motors.

  • Familiarity with industrial automation and programming PLCs.

  • Embedded programming in C/C++


Working Conditions:

The role will primarily be based in the SubSea Craft office in Portsmouth, UK, with occasional travel to the Portland facility in Dorset during trials. The position may involve work in a

manufacturing environment and at sea during trials, which may present physical challenges and

require adherence to safety protocols. Note that due to the nature of work undertaken at

SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of

the position, which would include as a minimum the Baseline Personnel Security Standard

(BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.
