We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Risk & Internal Control Analyst to join our team as part of an exciting project on an initial 12 month FTC.

As the Risk & Internal Control Analyst, you will provide second line oversight on the framework of systems and controls to ensure that these are sufficient and appropriate for risks to be managed within risk appetite. In the event that any control weakness are identified, the role holder must ensure that appropriate corrective actions are identified and executed in a suitable timescale to mitigate the identified risks.

As an ambassador for Operational Risk Management, you will demonstrate the ability to influence and challenge Senior Management and coordinate the implementation of new initiatives to improve the design and operating effectiveness of the internal controls in relation to key operational, financial, technical, and governance risks.


Scope of the role:

  • Requirement to build and manage relationships with stakeholders of various seniority levels in different entities
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Internal Control reporting framework by the first line of defence
  • Raise the awareness of risk management within the business, by building relationships and deploying training initiatives
  • Assist in preparation of local Committee packs
  • Occasional travel within UK and very limited travel to Europe (max 5%) may be required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that internal rules and regulations of the company are followed
  • Perform regular independent second line testing on the Internal Controls to ensure that these are designed and operating effectively to mitigate the risks Identify, investigate and report operational risk incidents to the Operational Risk Management team and track the delivery of corrective actions
  • Assist with the completion of the annual Operational Risk Assessment, ensuring the first line of defence are sufficiently supported and challenged on their assessment of the impact, likelihood and evaluation of the control environment
  • Promote the Escalation policy and ensure the business are raising and reporting operational incidents and near misses
  • Manage the internal control action and issues log, ensuring that management are delivering appropriate solutions in response to issues and risks identified. This includes risks identified through the Internal Control testing, risk assessment, incidents, internal audit etc
  • Provide regular reporting on the effectiveness of systems and controls, in a format suitable for presentation to a board level audience
  • Train first line control owners in how to use the group control reporting tool, SCALA
  • From time to time, support the AXA Partners Risk team and the UK & Ireland Executive Committee with ah-hoc projects / reviews etc.

Your Profile


Technical/ Functional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, managing stakeholders of all levels of seniority (including Executive Committee and CEO)
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders operating at different offices in the UK & Ireland and across the globe
  • Investigative and analytical mind-set
  • Resilience, diplomacy, self-motivation and integrity
  • Takes the initiative to plan, execute, and deliver multiple pieces of work to different deadlines, with minimal supervision.


Education, Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • Part-qualified / qualified accountant or auditor/Risk professional (i.e. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIA, IRM, CFA)
  • Several years of experience in at least one of the following areas: operational risk management, internal audit, finance, compliance monitoring, information security, and preferably within the insurance industry
  • Experience of working within a financially regulated environment (i.e. the FCA and PRA)
  • Knowledge of the key regulations such as Solvency II, General Data Protection Regulation, and Insurance Distribution Directive and FCA requirements.
