We are looking for an Officer experienced in all aspects of Revenues administration & legislation who is able to engage with our customers.
Excellent communication skills are essential.
You will be joining a small friendly team in an organisation which is a great place to work with clear ambitions and a strong ethos of team work and collaboration.
You will also be working in a very fast paced service providing first class customer service to our customers handling escalated inbound calls from residents, businesses and visitors resolving as many as possible to reduce the number of formal complaints being received.
Duties also include handling enquiries received via email and through our online forms, occasionally seeing customers face to face in our reception when back office help is called for and other administrative tasks as required to assist in the accurate Billing, Recovery and Collection processes of local revenues.
What we’re looking for
You will need to have extensive experience of working in a Revenues (Council Tax & Business Rates) environment with the ability to amend liability and to ensure accurate billing and collection in accordance with the latest legislation.
- Demonstrable knowledge and professional interest in the core services of the role.
- Demonstrable experience of effective team working.
- You will have extensive Customer Service and Revenues experience.
- The role also involves some administration, so great attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
Other responsibilities include:
- Ensure that all Council Tax and Non Domestic Rate amendments are dealt with promptly and accurately by fully utilising the computerised systems available.
- Work with the Team Leader (Revenues) and other team members to develop staff relationships to ensure that maximum output is achieved.
- Control on a day to day basis the allocation of payments by the computerised systems, ensuring adequate documentation of any amendments to provide a meaningful audit trail.
- Communicate information accurately and effectively both to other revenue team members and members of the public utilising email, letters and verbal communication as appropriate.
- Consider applications for allowances / reliefs (excluding Council Tax Support) in accordance with office procedures and grant or refuse where appropriate.
- Ensure that all possible effort has been taken to trace absconders, before arranging for the presentation of the case for write-off.
- Supervise and monitor the work of the Revenue Assistants and continually look for ways to improve working practices.
- Assist the Team Leader in respect of checking the pre list for direct debit runs and prepare the necessary documentation for transmitting the live debit run.
- Assist in the recovery process including the issue of formal Recovery Notices and Summonses, making and monitoring arrangements and dealing with the correspondence generated by such notices.
- Work closely with Team Leader and Complaints Officer when dealing with formal Stage 1 Complaints and Data breaches
- Ability to produce clear, concise and well-structured written Reports
- Excellent timekeeping with a reliable and punctual attitude towards work
You will need at least four GCSE’s grade 9-4 / A to C, or equivalent, including Maths and English to apply
