We are looking for a Retail Assistant to join our team at Tynemouth Aquarium, Tyne & Wear

Tynemouth aquarium, located on the North East coast is home to an array of animals in over 40 naturally themed exhibits from around the world from the British coast, the Mediterranean, coral reef and the tropical rainforest.

Job Description

To have an enthusiastic attitude and to deliver a high standard of customer service, ensuring all our visitors have a memorable visit and want to return. To work alongside the Retail and Front of House team to ensure the smooth running of the department whilst maintaining the safety of the Tynemouth Team and Visitors to the aquarium.

Customer Service

  • To be approachable, engaging and polite when dealing with visitors and ensuring high standards of customer services are delivered at all times
  • To be able to action any customer queries, feedback or complaints confidently and direct to the Retail and Guest Services Manager when necessary.
  • Work as part of a team, ensuring visitors are served quickly and efficiently and their requirements met.

Operational

  • To be able to follow opening duties to ensure the department is ready for opening and closing duties are followed to ensure the department is closed correctly and secure
  • To be confident in serving customers, to understand the different packages, promotions and products available with in the Retail and Front of House departments.
  • To be competent in merchandising all retail products to the highest standards.
  • With the help of the team keep the department including the gift shop, entrance area and ticket desk clean and tidy at all times, ensuring you are ready to welcome the next customer.
  • To sell up Guide Books and Memberships, meeting and exceeding daily targets.
  • To be able to use the computerised tills and handle cash confidently.

General

  • To ensure any training or associated courses are completed at the request of the management team.
  • To be responsible for wearing the correct uniform and have a high standard of personal presentation.
  • To work to the rota assigned which will include school holidays, weekends and bank holidays and to make reasonable notice in the event of illness etc.
  • To partake in themed events throughout the year, this may from time to time include fancy dress. These events will always be with prior notice

Requirements

  • At least one years’ experience in a similar role
  • Be enthusiastic, a team player and value working in this unique visitor attraction
  • Demonstrate good communication skills
  • Must take a hands on approach to work
  • Capable of working efficiently under pressure
  • Ability to take ownership and show initiative
  • Desire to continually learn and develop own skills
  • Strong personal integrity with an innate desire to work in an ethical manner
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude
  • Full availability, including weekends, holidays, Bank Holidays and Christmas
  • Excellent organisational skills
