Job description
We are looking for a Residential Support Worker to join a Residential Children’s home based in Westcliff-on-Sea the salary is up to £24,000 depending on qualifications and experience, there are many benefits as well as it being a rewarding role.
You must have previous experience in working with children and young people and an NVQ in Residential Childcare is desirable but not essential and the company will put you through your NVQ. You will have the opportunity to make a huge difference within a child’s life. Helping them to overcome any difficulties or disadvantages they may face – allowing them to strengthen their future.
You will meet a variety of children and young people, some of whom may require high levels of supervision and support. They may also require your guidance within education, training and employment. The rota pattern which includes some evenings and weekends ensures consistency for the children and young people whilst providing you with flexibility and the means for training and progression.
You will work within a small team in order to support and implement the development of the children’s home. You will ensure that the young people’s needs are recognised and met. This includes ensuring that they are free from discrimination within the home and to challenge discrimination from outside the home. You will protect the young people from harm in and outside the home and assist the management in the home in compliance with OfSTED, legislation, and the ethos and policies.
You will participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the individual young people’s care plans, including organising and supervising recreational and leisure activities both in and out of the home to provide the children with an interesting and stimulating life. This includes being prepared to spend time away from home on holidays and at camps etc. You will develop and maintain good working relationships with parents, social workers, schools and other professionals concerned with the welfare of the young people.
You must maintain a good understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures and care for children when they are ill and, where necessary, administer medicines, drugs and treatment under the guidance of the child’s medical practitioner. You will perform household duties as required. This includes cooking and general cleaning, sorting laundry, checking children’s bedrooms and encouraging them to keep their rooms tidy.
