As a Mortgage Underwriter on the team here at Metro Bank, your role will ensure appropriate mortgage lending decisions are made for our customers, and in good time. You will also provide really important support for colleagues who will approach you with mortgage enquiries and application queries.

So what will you be doing?
Supporting and guiding colleagues on all matters relating to underwriting and mortgage completions- Making mortgage lending decisions in line with your delegated lending authority and Metro Bank’s lending policy
- Managing high volumes of new applications and enquiries and completing them within our service level agreements (SLAs)
- You will also contribute to the development of the bank’s mortgage proposition with customer and intermediaries
- Working closely with other Mortgage Underwriters and the wider Mortgages and Private Banking teams, playing a really important role in the mortgage determination process

On this occasion, we are looking for Retail Mortgage Underwriting experience, and this must include holding an approval authority/mandate in Residential First Charge lending- You will also bring excellent knowledge of mortgage regulation and legal requirements surrounding mortgage underwriting
- Experience in Buy-to-Let that would be good but is not essential
- To be successful in this role, you will have good experience of mortgage assessment techniques and tools
- Naturally you will have a good understanding of the current mortgage industry trends, competitors and products (including portfolio buy-to-let, limited company buy-to-let, near/subprime, shared ownership and government lending schemes)
- If you have a CeMAP qualification, or equivalent, that would be advantageous, however this is not an essential requirement
- Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders
