Resident Engineer (Halewood, Liverpool)
Description and tasks
Role Purpose:
Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will develop and maintain on-site relationships within JLR manufacturing plant, ensuring all fastener related issues for the relevant vehicle program(s) are resolved on time and in line with the customer’s expectations. To ensure no disruption to the vehicle assembly lines occurs.
You will be a well-organized individual, paying attention to detail in maintaining an orderly workload and able to operate under time pressure constraints where required.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Work as part of the resident engineering team to deliver a best-in-class service to JLR.
Ensure a good working relationship is maintained with JLR with any concerns escalated to the Senior Engineer as and when required.
Provide JLR Engineering with technical support for resolution of any fastener related concerns, or design related changes that require investigation.
Maintain an accurate Bill of Materials for all relevant plant vehicle lines, ensuring CMM (change management control) data is kept up to date on the BOM.
Ensure all monthly BOM changes are logged and communicated to commercial and material planning for POP reconciliation and stock management.
Ownership of all in-plant functional trial activities, from new, resourced and TVM effected parts, including raising of WERS Alert, AIMS2, line trial documentation and liaising with TIAP to organize and agree timing of functional trial.
Support & lead all supplier-responsible on track functional trials with CME or TIAP or both.
If not already competent, receive training to negotiate the JLR Engineering Release System (WERS), and all JLR related systems required for the role.
Present functional trial results via Minitab statistical report to display outcome capability & predicted capability.
Ensure new JLR drawings are correctly created and approved by supplier prior to release via new fastener release process.
Support new model builds in plant from TT build phase onwards.
Work as part of a team to support the JLR TVM (Cost Reduction Processes) and Design studies to create optimized cost-effective Fastening solutions.
Attend JLR Fastener Engineering and Launch meetings as require
Knowledge of and adherence to ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and IATF 16949
Knowledge of and adherence to Bulten Group & Bulten Ltd Health and Safety Policy and procedures
Knowledge of and adherence to Bulten Ltd Environmental Policy
Candidate Profile
Essential:
HNC / HND level education – Mechanical Engineering (as minimum)
Extensive Automotive Experience preferably in OEM plant
Ability to travel on a limited basis to Bulten Plants and JLR Locations in Europe as required
A working knowledge of MS Office, Excel/Word etc
Desirable:
Experience of using JLR systems and processes (WERS/AIMS etc.), and/or automotive manufacturing processes
Understanding of leading in-plant quality issue resolution
Application of assembly torque relevant to joint design
Commercial awareness
Experience & understanding of GD&T
Experience of working within a cross-functional teams
Negotiate the JLR Engineering Release System (WERS), and all JLR related systems required for the role ensuring accurate cost capture & PACN in place
Understanding of metallurgy (mechanical properties)
