Job Introduction

We are looking for Development Researchers with a background in journalism and entertainment to join BBC Studios hugely successful, One Show development team. As Development Researcher you will have an interest in current affairs and entertainment but also the ability to spot good stories and develop new ideas that will work across a number of genres.

Candidates should be tenacious, brimming with ambitious ideas, and be confident pitching. You will have an awareness of the issues that matter to the public and be across both print and online news and what people are watching and consuming on TV, Radio and social media platforms, and in turn be able to suggest unique, fresh ideas that will appeal to broad audiences. As a confident writer and communicator, you will demonstrate a dedicated approach to interrogating subjects and be able to suggest relevant on-screen talent and contributors.

Main Responsibilities
  • Proactively undertake research to identify and develop new ideas and new talent.
  • Suggest, develop and research appropriate ideas with accuracy and diligence, using a wide range of sources and & adhering to known BBC policies & guidelines
  • Strong journalistic instinct and skills.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a strong and effective team, using your judgement to refer upwards when appropriate
  • Liaise with contributors, experts and talent, where required.
  • Seek out and develop access to unique stories and locations.
  • Produce well researched, crafted compelling treatments.
Are you the right candidate?
  • Proven experience of working in television production and/or television development in a Researcher role.
  • Demonstrable interest in Specialist Factual production especially in history and entertainment
  • Genuine interest and a passion for development.
  • Experience of writing treatments.
  • Calm and organised approach to working a busy environment, able to work to tight deadlines and prioritise across multiple projects.
  • Excellent team player.
  • A wide knowledge of film and television output.
  • Handling confidential information with tact and sensitivity
