About us

The UK Dementia Research Institute(UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative supporting research to fill the major knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause dementia.

We are a globally leading multidisciplinary research institute of 700 staff investigating the spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders causing dementia, driving a step change in our understanding of neurodegeneration and accelerating the discovery, development and delivery of interventions that will help diagnose, treat and ultimately prevent dementia.

About the role

The UK DRI Fluid Biomarker Laboratory at UCL has recently set up a new Fluid Biomarker Platform in order to facilitate fluid biomarker research across the UK DRI national network.

You will undertake the biomarker measurements for UK DRI projects that the new platform will facilitate. This will entail using a variety of state-of-the-art immunoassay platforms to perform biomarker measurements on fluid samples from collaborator labs. These projects may be small i.e., less than 500 samples, or very large i.e., 10,000+ samples. The results must then be curated and presented in a format that is accessible to our collaborators.

The role is available from 01 April 2023 and is funded by the UK DRI for one year in the first instance.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team ([email protected]).

Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Dr Amanda Heslegrave ([email protected]).

A full job description and person specification for this role can be accessed below.

About you

You will have a BSc in a Biomedical subject or equivalent experience, and experience with immunoassays. General laboratory competence and an ability to use basic lab equipment, such as centrifuge / pipette is essential as are excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills. An understanding of the UK DRI, an interest in its research work, and a commitment to supporting high quality research is also a requirement.

This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
