About us
The post of Research Technician is in the Cortexlab at University College London (UCL), a leading neuroscience laboratory led by Profs. Matteo Carandini and Kenneth Harris. The laboratory is part of the International Brain Laboratory, a collective effort of 22 laboratories across the world.
The post offers an exciting opportunity to practice the basics of research at the interface of computational and experimental neuroscience, in a project that seeks to reveal how the mouse brain processes sensory information and integrates it with information derived from past experience.
About the role
Duration: 2 years, from 1st Sept 2023 until August 2025, in the first instance
Salary: UCL grade 6 (£32,331 - £37,548 inclusive of London Allowance)
The successful applicant will assist a team of scientists working on understanding the neural basis of behavior and is expected to learn to train mice to perform a behavioral task and recording the activity of their neurons using techniques such as two-photon imaging and Neuropixels recordings, among other techniques.
As a member of the team they will be trained in advanced techniques and will be exposed to all aspects of the research.
About you
Applicants should have a Honours degree (minimum 2:1) in a scientific discipline, and ideally some laboratory experience, some knowledge of neuroscience, and basic understanding of Python or Matlab.
It is also helpful but not necessary to have a higher degree in neuroscience, to have experience with rodent behaviour and surgeries, to have a Home Office licence, and experience with the techniques mentioned above.
