Job description
Research Technician in Structural Molecular Biology
Are you an early career researcher looking for a challenge? Do you have a background in Structural Molecular Biology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?
We are looking for a highly motivated person to provide technical support to the research group of Professor Neil Ranson, Professor Sheena Radford and Dr Antonio Calabrese. This is a 3 year fixed term post funded by a BBSRC project grant to study (i) the molecular details underpinning the folding of membrane proteins into the outer membrane of Gram negative bacteria by the BAM complex, (ii) how molecular chaperones deliver proteins to BAM, and (iii) how periplasmic proteases clear proteins that stall during folding on BAM.
You should have a Degree, BTEC higher level or equivalent, or equivalent experience of working in a laboratory environment, with skills in standard molecular biology techniques, bacterial culture, protein expression and protein purification methodologies. You may also have previous experience of sample preparation for structural studies such as cryoEM, or protein-protein interaction experiments. In your role as laboratory technician you will work closely with other research scientists within our group. You should therefore be highly motivated, organised, and able to communicate and collaborate as part of a team.
The University of Leeds and the Faculty of Biological Sciences are committed to providing equal opportunities for all and offer a range of family friendly policies. The University is a charter member of Athena SWAN (the national body that promotes gender equality in higher education), and the Faculty of Biological Sciences was awarded a Silver award in 2020. We are proud to be an inclusive Faculty that values all staff, and are happy to consider job share applications and requests for flexible working arrangements from our employees. Our Athena SWAN webpage provides more information.
