Job description

Research Technician

Overview of the Role

Can you provide technical support to research projects into reproductive biology and pregnancy complications? Do you have a strong interest in pregnancy and placental function?

This is an exciting opportunity in the Women’s Health Research Group for you to support our programme of research identifying the mechanisms responsible for poor placental function, premature birth and neonatal brain injury for one of our funders (Cerebra). Additionally, you will contribute to the team’s work into reproductive pathology, which focuses on the development of novel strategies for prevention, early detection and management of prematurity.

You will have laboratory experience with a BSc degree in a relevant biomedical field (or equivalent qualification/experience) and a keen interest in biomedical research. Willingness to work with human and/or animal tissue of reproductive origin is essential as well as having wet laboratory experience (e.g. molecular biology, immunoassay, immunohistochemistry). You will also be confident in using software packages for data/image analysis. A confident and sensitive approach in consenting patients is also required.

You will be encouraged to develop your initiative and independence and will be given opportunities for career development. This post is based within the School of Medicine in the new Institute of Medical Research at St James’s. The post is located in the Wellcome Trust Brenner building at St. James’s University Hospital.
