Job description
The Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS), at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint a Research Technician.

The successful applicant will work with Drs Emma Kerr and Melissa LaBonte Wilson on developing metabolomics methodologies for the study of drug response and resistance in cancer.

The position will involve working to develop and execute cutting edge Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (LCMS) based profiling methods, collaborating with local and international metabolism and mass spectrometry experts.


The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • A minimum qualification of ONC/OND and/or NVQ level 3 in biology, medical laboratory sciences or related subject (or equivalent)
  • Substantial relevant experience to include recent relevant experience in mass spectrometry including sample analysis and data interpretation
  • Good laboratory practice.

This post is fixed term for 12 months from 1 October 2023. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
