Drayton Animal Health is a contract research organisation located close to Stratford-on-Avon. Purpose of Job
To work as a member of a team in the delivery of studies conducted to assist clients develop farm animal health products. In particular, to be responsible for set up, collecting and processing of data and biological samples from farm animals (cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry and horses), including some laboratory analysis, on studies conducted to assist clients develop their products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organise and deliver practical tasks associated with a number of research projects on farm animals, including setting up of procedures on studies and associated paperwork and materials
  • Carry out regular collection, processing, storage and despatch of samples.
  • Carry out laboratory analysis of samples including processing of samples ahead of analysis at partner labs, microbiology and parasitology.
  • Collect and collate manually recorded data from studies.
  • Validate and accurately transfer data to electronic media.
  • Enter data tables and appendices in study reports.
  • Organise calibration and service of equipment used on various studies and keep up to date records of faults, services and calibrations.
  • Understand and adhere to strict biosecurity procedures when moving between groups of animals.
  • Monitor the health and welfare of animals on various studies as required.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Clinical Practice (veterinary), Good Laboratory Practice, Home Office and other relevant guidelines (Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, etc.).
  • Understand and interpret protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as all the above is to be carried out in accordance with these.
  • Be the lead Senior Research Technician for specified studies, responsible for the provision of consumables and forms for study specific tasks, and regular checking of data.

Performance Capabilities

  • Carry out collection, processing, analysis, storage and despatch of samples according to study protocols and SOPs.
  • Collect and collate data, transferring to electronic media, according to study protocols and SOPs and as required for study reports.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records through excellent attention to detail to meet the requirements of each study.
  • Adhere to Good Clinical Practice (veterinary), Good Laboratory Practice, Home Office and other relevant guidelines (Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, etc.) and biosecurity procedures as relevant to the project.
  • Carry out activities flexibly and reliably, working as part of a team, supporting others and taking responsibility for the success of the team.

Job Requirements
Essential

  • Meticulous in approach to following procedures and instructions.
  • Accurate when keeping detailed written records.
  • Flexible and adaptable. Willing and able to work off site, at weekends and unsociable hours if required.
  • Driving licence.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel. Strong communication skills

Desirable

  • Familiar with biosecurity procedures.
  • Familiar with husbandry of farm animals including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and horses.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment, particularly microbiology or parasitology.
  • Home Office Personal Licence holder or experience of working on Home Office regulated studies.
  • Experience of working to Good Clinical Practice (veterinary) and Good Laboratory Practice.
