We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Technician who will play a key part in driving the translational goals of our project teams with the Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ODDI) within the Centre for Medicines Discovery here at The Nuffield Department of Medicine.
You will become an integral part of project teams working on drug discovery projects with the goal to drive progress in developing new therapeutics to treat Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. You will employ cutting edge biochemical and biophysical techniques to explore protein structure-function, identify novel ligands for the targets of interest, and to understand the molecular pharmacology of the target proteins.
You will be responsible for developing biochemical and biophysical assays and optimising them for utilisation in high throughput screening and compound evaluation cascades. You will be managing your own laboratory work and work closely alongside other scientists on joint projects. Among your responsibilities, you will also be responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables.
It is essential that you hold an A-Level qualification in Biology or Chemistry or equivalent with some laboratory experience, gained through university practical work. You will have the Ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate with colleagues on a range of projects. You will also have excellent verbal and written presentation and communication skills in order to provide reliable and precise reports. The ability to be well organised, familiar with good laboratory techniques, practices and safety requirements is also essential.
