361841 Insights Lead, Global Medical Affairs
The purpose of the Insights Lead role at Global level is to be a strategic partner and an insight discovery expert for the Medical Affairs Global Medical Franchise/TA team, and specifically for senior medical leaders (e.g. GMAL and GMAL-Lead, grade 3 to 5 roles). The Insight Lead provides robust, insightful and objective analysis on medical insights for prioritized assets across global activities and top priority LOCs/regions to develop effective Medical strategies and inform critical business decisions (e.g. Medical Launch plans). Additionally, the Global Medical Insights Lead supports the Global Director for Medical Insights in designing, maintaining and evolving an effective global medical way of working for the utilisation of insight from patients, healthcare providers and regulators into early and late development stage
This role is accountable for leading the integration of LOC/regional insights as well as insights derived from global activities into global asset specific strategies and tactics for effective, impactful, and holistic Global strategic decision making by the GMAL. This role will also be responsible for leading and driving global customer insight work and insight discovery from global medical programs and customer engagement opportunities where customer feedback and other important relevant data is collected that is across LOCs/Regions.
This role will partner and collaborate with the Data Science and Analytics team to articulate prioritized, strategic Global questions and develop an analytics plan to uncover critical findings and potential insights, with key consideration to priority markets, for review and pressure testing/validation. This role will connect findings coming from the priority LOCs/Regions as well as global activities and across many disparate sources to synthesize these findings and potential insights for review at a Global level as a critical input for Global strategy as well as pipeline development through the GMAL. This role will facilitate the validation of potential insights with Medical experts/SMEs based on local context and will prioritize insights with close collaboration with the GMAL.
This role will use methods and approaches from their insight discovery technical expertise to synthesize information and uncover customer motivations and needs. They will champion insight discovery best practices, frameworks, and analytics methods ensuring standard application of these best practices, frameworks, and analytics methods across the Insights Leads Network. They will lead by example as a “data storyteller” for the prioritized assets of focus within the TA and ensure appropriate feedback loops from local to global as one insight pipe for the GMALs for actions and decisions with Global strategy and focus. They will ensure feedback loops back to the LOCs/Regions for alignment. They will maintain a global insights log to capture and identify the greatest opportunity areas including from pipeline/discovery input for development to usage of our medicines/vaccines for patient treatment in the market. This role will ensure that potential Global insights are captured, validated, and scored/categorized for appropriate action within the global insights log.
In this role you will
- Partner closely with the GMAL and the GMAL-Lead (where present) to enable and drive Global Medical decisions and strategies and for key input into pipeline/development workstreams. Build strong partnerships with Asset Commercial team for the opportunity to share insights as appropriate as well as other areas within R&D. Build strong partnerships with the other Insights Leads at Global level to share best practices and learn from challenges to further embed the end to end insights process at a Global level.
- Define, structure, plan, and execute certain types of analytics at a global level as needed such as qualitative and/or quantitative research, findings from voice of customer sources using analytic tools/technology to dig deeper into opportunities or specific findings, and industry trend reports (e.g. benchmarking, findings from syndicated studies to integrate, etc.)
- Accountable for delivering a robust, evidence-based synthesis of findings and insights from disparate sources including from real world data, reporting metrics (e.g. MSL engagement data), voice of the customer (from advisory boards, market research, social media, etc.) to ensure high quality medical insights are derived and integrated into wider asset understanding and strategy.
- Drive the evolution of findings into insights by facilitating discussions with the global Medical matrix team to uncover globally relevant customer motivations, beliefs, and needs (including recommending additional analyses to supplement findings).
- Develop a deep understanding of the therapeutic area (TA) of focus and the prioritized assets within the TA including in-depth knowledge of the assets/products and strategies; Develop knowledge of the priority LOCs/Regions for local environment context when synthesizing insights at a global level.
- Develop and maintain a global insights log appropriately integrating and weighting insights from priority LOCs/Regions for global insight review; Actively lead the articulation of insights within key strategic forums at a global level; Ensure that insight priorities are captured along with appropriate actions and owners for follow through.
- Partner with the Data Science and Analytics team to scope important global questions, develop analysis plans, and help interpret analytical findings in the context of the TA/asset of focus. Review findings with the Asset Medical Team to pressure test global level findings given localized contributions and capture global findings/potential insights for review and validation with global medical experts.
- Support the coordination of a matrix team of Insights Leads and/or Champions aligned and co-located with priority LOCs/Regions/markets of focus. Ensure application of best practices, standards, and approaches for consistent, localized insight discovery for effective synthesis at a global level.
- Champion standard insight approaches, frameworks, and analytics methods to uncover true customer insights based on the customer insight definition (i.e. not just data points or observations) and ensure standard application within the Insight Lead team.
- Ensure that the global insight log is up to date as a valuable, critical resource and “one source of truth” for global insights. Champion the use of the insights log within the TA/Global Medical Franchise/GMAL to review key findings and insights for decision making forums and emerging opportunities.

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- MA/MSc/PhD in Medical or applied quantitative sciences discipline (e.g. Life Sciences, Applied Science, Analytics, Market Research, Healthcare Consulting) with strong business acumen
- Significant and varied experience in quantitative analysis related fields applying analytics and insights for business decisions (research, analytics, forecasting, etc.)
- Demonstrated successful matrix management and leadership effectiveness; Ability to work effectively and build relationships across teams
- Strong grasp of what a true insight is and how to uncover an insight
- Mastery of relevant analytical concepts and frameworks
- Ability to understand and synthesize across multiple types of datasets and findings
- Experience in Pharmaceuticals/Medical Field; Understanding of high performing Medical Affairs organizations and customer dynamics/experience in the evolving and rapidly changing healthcare environment.
- Specific training and customer insight discovery certifications through customer insight programs, etc. preferred
- Experience in R&D, Medical Affairs, Healthcare consulting and customer facing roles preferred
- Global experience preferred
