Job description

Within the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), the Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) situated in the San Francisco Bay Area is dedicated to finding new therapies to treat and prevent a range of noncommunicable and infectious conditions, with an emphasis on global health diseases. With full access to NIBR know-how, NITD has a highly collaborative culture and maintains close links with academic centers of excellence and a broad range of philanthropic and governmental organizations around the globe (e.g., Wellcome Trust, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Medicines for Malaria Venture, Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative and NIH). The GH Integrated Pharmacology group provides high quality in vivo research work and support to enable drug discovery research and development. The candidate will manage in vivo research studies and projects to support the diverse and exciting project portfolio at GH.

This role may be based in Emeryville, CA or Cambridge, MA and will be dependent on candidate selection.

What you will be doing:
  • Provide strategic and scientific input to project teams
  • Lead scientific associates to design, execute and interpret in vivo PK/PD experiments
  • Engage in exploratory in vivo research in a collaborative setting to address key scientific questions relating to global health research
  • Author internal reports, presentations and external publications
  • Conduct and supervise your lab to ensure compliance with local, state and federal guidelines and policies

Minimum requirements

What you will bring to the role:

  • PhD in pharmacology, immunology, microbiology or related discipline.
  • Experienced in infection model development, pharmacodymamics and pharmacokinetics
  • Expertise in in vivo biology, experimental design, data interpretation and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to manage in an environment compliant with local, state and federal policies and guidelines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The ideal candidate will be collaborative, innovative, and self-driven with proven success working within an interdisciplinary team setting

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $151,200 to $226,800 /year; however, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
