Description
A growing biotechnology company has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist to join its Cell & Molecular Pharmacology team. Your role will be to set up, run and interpret biological assays including binding ELISAs and cell based functional assays, with the ultimate goal of supporting antibody discovery. To be considered you must have previous experience in cell based assays and cell culture in an industrial lab.
Daily Duties:
- The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary laboratory team to design, produce and test biological candidate antibodies for veterinary use
- The candidate will be required to set up, run and interpret biological assays including binding ELISAs and cell based functional assays.
- The candidate will be required to present data confidently to the team on a regular basis
- The candidate will be required to prepare stocks of assay solutions and media; will be required to culture and maintain mammalian, bacterial and yeast cultures.
- The candidate will be required to manage and utilise automation equipment
- The candidate will be required to record experimental and screening write ups in the company electronic Laboratory Notebook according to company SOPs.
- The candidate may be required to work within the Protein sciences group to produce, purify and characterise antibodies and target proteins.
- The candidate will be required to work within all company GMO and safety policies, guidelines and SOPs.
Experience Required:
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant biological science with 3-5 year’s laboratory-based experience gained within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector.
- Molecular biology and microbiological skills such as PCR, RT-PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA isolation.
- Protein-based techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot, stability studies.
- Experience in Cell-based assay development
- Tissue culture and aseptic techniques. Ability to maintain several mammalian cell lines in parallel.
- Working knowledge of plate-based immunoassays, e.g. ELISA, or homogeneous assays.
- Confident in the preparation of general laboratory media and reagents.
- Ability to work flexibly across projects with excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Enjoys working independently and in a team.
- Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
In addition, the successful candidate may have experience of working in one or more of the following areas of science:
- Antibody discovery and antibody therapeutics development.
- Flow cytometry methods
- A background in virology or microbiology.
- Experience of using phage display technology.
- Antibody engineering, protein and antibody expression, purification and characterisation.
- Experience of working with functional assay technologies such as SPR
