Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Research UK is offering 3 month internships for MSc and PhD students interested in experiencing the research environment at IBM Research. Estimated start date would be late May to late June.
During your internship, you can expect to work on challenging research problems as part of a diverse team in a leading worldwide industrial research organisation. Our lab focuses on using cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to advance scientific discovery processes in industries that have applications in urgent societal impact areas such as climate and sustainability, healthcare and life sciences. We work in domains such as AI, Cloud, Quantum Computing, and advanced prototyping for discovery tasks. Our cross-disciplinary approach to research, coupled with the profound curiosity of our researchers and engineers, offers a unique opportunity to participate in scientific and industrial research as part of a world-class research organisation. Interns have authored papers, filed patents, contributed to open-source projects, and contributed to IBM products during their time with us.
You should enclose a CV and include a one-page cover letter in your application. It will help us process your application if you specify up to three areas of interest in your cover letter. Internships are for 3 months and are based at either our Daresbury (Warrington) or Hursley (Winchester) labs.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Applicants should be enrolled in or have recently completed a Master’s or Doctoral-level course and have a science, technology, engineering, or mathematical discipline background. Your areas of interest should include foundation models, machine learning, AI, optimisation, applied math, knowledge representation, natural language processing, simulation and modelling, cloud and future systems architectures, high-performance computing, and quantum computing.
