Job description
The Research Officer post sits within Historic Environment Scotland’s External Relations and Partnerships directorate, which has a remit that includes strategy and policy development, research, international working, community engagement, fundraising, and delivery of Our Place in Time – Scotland’s national historic environment strategy.
This one-year post is an excellent development opportunity for an individual with an interest in research and analysis, and in how research and evidence feeds into the development and successful delivery of policy. You will be expected to work across the organisation to help develop our evidence-base and present findings to key audiences. Duties will involve undertaking desk-based research and analysis, commissioning research, undertaking horizon-scanning exercises, and producing briefings, reports, and other outputs for use in decision-making.
Person specification
Essential requirements:
- Strong social or economic research skills, and/or expertise in the analysis of large data sets
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work across multiple areas while prioritising competing demands and delivering tasks within tight deadlines.
- Excellent written skills, including ability to present data and technical information in an accessible way
- Excellent oral communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including ability to convey complex information in an accessible manner
- Ability to provide clear and concise briefings to senior colleagues
- Ability to build partnerships and relationships to deliver projects and activities
