About us

The NIHR ARC North Thames works together with its university, NHS, local authority, patient, charity and industry partners to identify the key health and care problems. We design innovative research in response and rapidly put findings into practice across our region and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration with Care City London, a community interest company which conducts research, innovation and development work to strengthen health and the determinants of health in partnership with local people and local health and care partners. The post holder will develop an innovative dataset across both NHS and council sources (the Care City Cohort) and conduct applied health research using this resource.

About the role

The researcher will work between Care City and the ARC to develop the Care City Cohort dataset, and use this resource to conduct quantitative research of local and national public health importance. The postholder will advance the use of data and analytics for decision making across health and local authority organisations. This might include developing and sharing code, making recommendations about the collection, collation and storage of routinely collected data; and use the Care City Cohort dataset to conduct applied research that advances understanding of social variations in care use for people with multimorbidity, in order to inform equitable planning or provision of care. This is a fixed term role until 30 September 2024 in the first instance. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis. We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible.

About you

The post holder must have (or be near completion of) a PhD in public health data science, statistics, social statistics, a related field with a substantive quantitative component, or in a related area with less quantitative emphasis, but with equivalent experience in applying statistics in the context of population health research using routine data; or equivalent experience. The post holder should have experience of: • Experience of data management of electronic records preferably from health care and local authority sources • Knowledge of the information governance requirements concerned with linkage of data for service and research purposes • Conducting high quality academic research using quantitative methods in a population health context • Experience of collaborating with health care and/ or public health professionals in health research, in studies about or using population data • In depth knowledge of a wide variety of statistical approaches.
