Research Fellow in Energy Transition
SAFARI is a long running project at the University of Aberdeen which focuses on the delivery of analogue data for improved understanding of subsurface reservoirs. The key deliverable is a database of 650 virtual outcrops collected from key locations around the World. These are augmented with additional data to improve their applicability in helping to understand the subsurface.

The project has been running since 2008 and is entering its fifth phase which will run for 4 years. One of the key focuses on SAFARI Phase 5 is to explore the application of the database in the Energy Transition, especially with respect to subsurface stores for CO2 and H2. There is also potential for work on geothermal energy from shallow aquifers and fractured basement. The successful candidate will have two principal roles.
- To explore and leverage the application of the existing SAFARI database within the Energy Transition sphere.
- To assist in the growth and expansion of the database for all subsurface application.
Salary will be at Grade 6, Point 30, £36,333.
