About us

UCL is 2nd rated University in the UK for research power in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). Our scientists have an international reputation for leading basic, translational and clinical cancer research and the Cancer Institute is uniquely positioned to leverage these broad ranging skills to transform cancer research. The Cancer Institute combines over 300 research scientists, clinical links with UCLH and the Royal Free Hospital, and collaborative links with the Cancer Research UK City of London Centre partners (UCL, Queen Mary University of London, Kings College London and The Francis Crick Institute), making it an exciting environment for basic and translational research into cancer. UCL is one of a network of Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) throughout the UK to facilitate early phase clinical trials of novel cancer therapeutics. UCL ECMC provides infrastructure critical to facilitate cutting edge translational work with world leading expertise and supports the development and delivery of a broad portfolio of early phase research studies. A newly funded major initiative is the establishment of a UCL/UCLH Cancer Biomarker Centre with the goal of developing and implementing novel biomarkers into clinical trials and clinical practice. The UCL ECMC GCLP Facility is a fully Accredited Facility run by Professor John Hartley and is based within the UCL Cancer Institute. The Facility is responsible for developing, validating and performing analytical methods for use in early phase clinical trials. The Facility processes, stores and analyses samples for clinical trials sponsored by UCL, CRUK and commercial companies. All work within the Facility is performed in accordance with current Clinical Trials Regulations, EU Directives, applicable Commission guidance and the Declaration of Helsinki and operates to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP).

About the role

The GCLP Flow Cytometry Scientist, funded as part of the UCL/UCLH Cancer Biomarker Centre, will be responsible for overseeing the development, validation and implementation of flow cytometry assays as endpoints in early phase clinical trials. These trials will include several from the world class CAR T-cell program at UCL/UCLH. The GCLP Flow Cytometry Scientist will have a strong flow cytometry method based translational scientific background. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of flow cytometry method development, validation and trial sample analysis within the Facility are managed and performed to the regulatory standards. They will be expected to be capable of working well in a collaborative environment and be a good communicator. Applications should include a CV and a Cover Letter: In the Cover Letter please evidence the essential and desirable criteria in the Person Specification part of the Job Description.
