About us

The UCL Division of Surgery and Interventional Science is a collaborative and cross-disciplinary environment where clinicians, engineers, allied health professionals and researchers are constantly striving for innovative approaches to treatment. This includes developing highly effective methods which go beyond the boundaries of conventional wisdom and treating each patient as an individual.

About the role

The purpose of this post is to support the project research team with the delivery of the awarded NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Funded Grant investigating the management of pain and cachexia in pancreatic cancer. Approximately 75% of people with pancreatic cancer suffer with pain and more than half of patients have cachexia. However, there is considerable uncertainty regarding management of these distressing symptoms. Addressing these uncertainties are among the top research priorities in pancreatic cancer. Our project aims to find out the benefits and harms of different treatments for people with pain and cachexia (weakness and wasting of the body) due to pancreatic cancer through systematic reviews and network meta-analyses. We will also conduct surveys and focus groups with patients/carers and healthcare professionals with the aim to develop clinical care pathways for the management of pancreatic cancer pain and cachexia which are based on evidence. The post holder will work closely with the co-principal investigators: Dr Danielle Roberts and Prof Kurinchi Gurusamy, as well as various other collaborators on the project, including Pancreatic Cancer UK. This is a part-time post (0.2 FTE equating to 7.3 hours per week) with an intended start date of April 2023. This post is funded for 12 months (or until 31st March 2024 if starting later) in the first instance. Please note we would accept applications from candidates at a lower FTE percentages also. The maximum salary available for this post is £39,508 pro rata, per annum.
