Job description
An exciting new post has been created for a clinical fellow role split between general surgery and research and development. This post is for 12 months, commencing June 2023 at NCIC, split between 0.5 wte in as education fellow with general surgery and 0.5 wte as research fellow in the research and development department.
Within the research portion of the role the successful candidate will gain experience in all stages of research delivery, acting as co-investigator and in some instances Principle Investigator for a number of clinical trials across a range of specialities. There will also be the opportunity to work on one of NCICs own research projects potentially resulting in a publication.
The clinical portion of the role will involve improving the educational environment for all levels of medical staff and extended surgical team, co-ordinating on going QI/Audit projects and pathway reviews and contributing to General Surgical Middle grade on call rota.
Research
- To act as co-investigator/ principle investigator on a range of research projects across various specialities
- The post will be based at CIC but may involve cross site working to deliver research at WCH also
- To increase recruitment to portfolio studies within NCIC
- To facilitate and encourage high quality clinical research within NCIC
- To develop the skills and knowledge needed to conduct and deliver clinical research in the NHS
- Improve the educational environment for all levels of medical staff and extended surgical team
- Co-ordinate on going QI/Audit projects and pathway reviews
- Contribute to General Surgical Middle grade on call (1:10 fullshift rota)
- Take part in departmental MDT, govenance, educational and Elective activity.
The Clinical Research Team in the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust supports clinical research undertaken by clinicians, research nurses and clinical research practitioners by being responsible for research governance and offering managerial support.
The majority of funding for personnel is provided by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN). The NIHR CRN aims to improve the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, through the successful delivery of research in the NHS. The aim is to provide a world-class health service infrastructure to support clinical research and accelerate patient access to the most appropriate treatment and care.
Clinical Fellow General Surgery
The role of the department of general surgey is to provide clinical care to patients with general surgical conditions and training to doctors and members of the extended surgical team and all levels of expereince.
The candidate will have a named educational supervisor and training needs and resources are tailored to the individual personal development plans.
In the course of his/her work the jobholder liaises with nursing, professional and technical, social work and administrative staff.
The clinical research fellow (CRF) will provide clinical support for a portfolio of clinical research across a range of specialities.
The role and responsibilities will be adjusted according to prior experience. The fellow will provide medical support within the Clinical Research Department for clinical trials. They will work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team of research nurses and practitioners, Principle Investigators and clinical trial pharmacist. They will gain experience and training in all aspects of clinical research delivery, including:
- study set up
- recruitment
- consent
- Pharmacovigilance
