Job Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Engineer who possesses a strong background in materials and mechanical engineering. As a Research Engineer, you will play a key role in Masonite’s ongoing development and understanding of interior and exterior residential doors, including fire barrier and acoustic door slabs and systems. Your primary focus will be in applying your deep knowledge of structure-property-product relationships to advance our product designs and expand our knowledgebase in service of future innovations.
Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Lead performance testing of fire rated doors and develop solutions for improved products, considering materials and engineering principles to improve on safety and performance.
- Research, design, and conduct experiments to evaluate and validate new materials and mechanical designs for novel doors and door systems.
- Apply principles of acoustical engineering and measurement technologies to optimize noise reduction and control in interior and exterior door systems.
- Utilize stack-up tolerance analysis techniques to ensure precision and accuracy in mechanical assemblies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that meet project objectives.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in material science, mechanical engineering, and related fields to propose and implement innovative approaches.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related field.
- Minimum five years' experience in an R&D or engineering setting conducting applied research and experimentation of materials and product application solutions.
- Strong background in materials engineering, including knowledge of different material properties, behavior, characterization techniques.
- Solid understanding of structure-property relationships and their application in mechanical engineering and design.
- Familiarity and experience with testing and design of fire rated doors(or similar technologies) and associated regulations.
- Knowledge of acoustical engineering principles, measurements, and their application in mechanical system design.
- Experience with CAD software and simulation tools for mechanical design and analysis.
- Proficiency in stack-up tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
