WHAT WE OFFER
The R&D Scientist II supports the Specialties and Automotive systems business by organizing and conducting laboratory and scale-up evaluations to develop, localize, or improve Covestro’s products. In addition, this position provides technical support to customers and trials in the field. The job-holder’s primary focus is on team goals.
Major Responsibilities:
- Prepare and conduct lab work and machine trials, collecting and analyzing data. Complete projects independently with moderate supervision/collaboration when designing modifications to existing products/processes.
- Work with account managers, technical service and global colleagues to define requirements of customer or project needs; Manage project to ensure successful implementation at customer through monitoring customer data and assisting troubleshooting efforts.
- Assist with evaluations of potential products, process improvements, raw materials, potential hazards or equipment by conducting lab bench work.
- Communicate / present results to supervisor, internal partners and occasionally to group management; writes project/call reports in a timely manner and contributes to written technical papers.
- Build relationships with key vendors to keep informed about new products. Develop expertise in relevant technologies/markets by staying current with technical reports, articles and trade information.
- Have knowledge of and be able to demonstrate basic technical concepts to customers (e.g. chemistry, processing, analytical and physical properties, general equipment operations).
- Have a strong understanding of safety requirements and safe work practices in lab and production environment.
WHAT YOU OFFER
Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in technical field (Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred) with 1+ years of experience OR MS degree in technical field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the polyurethane industry and/or experience with polyurethane chemistry
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel, including internal and external customers, supporting business objectives and management initiatives.
- Demonstrated analytical skills in order to identify and resolve problems in all aspects of new product development and commercialization.
- Comfortable supporting a diversity of products and customers as is customary within a Specialties team.
- Strong commitment to safety culture.
