The Role
In this role, you will be taking a senior role in the R&D and electronics division at Aqualand Industries Limited.
At Aqualand Industries we design and build ride-on adventure toys for children with our clients being blue-chip companies within the leisure and recreation sector meaning we supply to holiday resorts, activity centres as well as hotels and other leisure operators.
Our products are electrically powered vehicles for land and water consisting of a strong current portfolio of products with several new products in R&D.
As a company we are growing and expanding rapidly with new markets in the EU and globally being targeted. We are an innovative company in a niche, but highly valuable, global sector.
We are looking to bring in talented candidate to be an important part of the R&D and electronics divisions of the business.
In overview, the candidate will be involved in R&D and be involved in seeing production of the products developed. We are looking for a candidate keen to develop firmware and electronics for products, but also somebody who also has mechanical skills and is keen to get involved across the R&D and production parts of the business.
This will be an opportunity for you to gain experience in a wide range of areas and contribute to the expansion of the business within a nurturing team.
Summary of Key Duties & Responsibilities
You will collaborate on projects as well as working independently as required.
The role will see you working on existing products and looking at continual improvement. The role will include research & development towards new products as well as an involvement in production of products for customers.
All in a wide range of opportunities as well as an interesting and diverse workload.
As part of the role you will:
· R&D on existing and new products for our range. This will include designing and testing and working with outside design consultants. You will be responsible for the electronics, drive and power elements but will have a role in all aspects of R&D.
· Undertake continual development on our existing products to constantly look to refine and improve. This will include assessing the changes needed for new markets/territories.
· Design and simulate your own schematic designs and layout PCBs and control boxes
· Produce technical drawings, documentation and specifications
· Identify and work with appropriate power supplies, microprocessors, controllers and similar components for use in our PCBs and products
· Produce or supervise the production of your designed PCBs and control boxes and take the lead on quality control
· Create and test the firmware used to run the boxes, microprocessors, controllers, and products with such being prepared to the highest standards, including the creation of safety protocols
· Be part of the R&D of new electronic systems and solutions for our products and new projects. This will include devising how these are best operated and how the components are best assembled and packaged
· Have an understanding of regulatory compliance for the electronics and the electrical field as a whole and be responsible for seeing the electronics and electric components are tested to and meet such standards
· Lead the process for devising, and then undertake, the appropriate tests and compliance testing on your work and our products
· Test electrical circuits and measure their performance
· Be required to fault find and rework assemblies of electronic components and sub-assemblies for our products
· Undertake functioning testing on finished products
· You will work with motors and gearboxes and other mechanical parts as part of your integrating and designing of electronics for our products. Familiarity with such components is important as you will help specify the right equipment for our products
· You will work on battery technology (particularly lithium ion and Lifo batteries) and sourcing and the right candidate will have familiarity with this.
Desirable and interesting requirements for the job:
· A degree or appropriate level qualifications in a relevant area such as electronics, or have completed modules in electronics within your learning/course
· Enthusiasm for electronics and working in manufacturing
· Sound problem solving skills
· Some mechanical skills and an understanding of the interaction between mechanics and electronic/electrical parts of a product
· Having a good understanding of motor technologies, i.e brushed, brushless, AC induction motors
· A solid understanding of OHMs law and circuits
· Experience in building and programming control boxes, PCBs, microprocessors, controllers and similar components and interfacing these with firmware
· A full understanding of voltage, power and ampage and how to test and control such
· Experience of designing and simulating electrical circuits
· Good practical skills with evidence of electrical testing and appreciation of safe working
· Able to programme in computer languages such as Python or C/C++
· Helpful would be 3D CAD design skills for producing parts that can be 3D printed or milled
· Experience with power electronics and switched mode power supply use or design
· Be familiar with sourcing appropriate components that are to the right specification, testing and rating standards required for the uses to which they will be put.
· Understand how to use common workshop tools and ideally be able to solder to a competent level.
