Job description
We are seeking to recruit a Research Development Manager to lead strategic research and innovation activity aligned to Technology Platforms within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. Technology Platforms include core facilities for research, innovation and technology development and are key to driving the breadth, depth and impact of our research and innovation activity across the faculty.
This is an important role within the faculty Research Development and Innovation Team. The post-holder will play a leading role in the development and implementation of strategies led by the Associate Dean for Technology Platforms and Discovery Science and the Director of Core Facilities. Key duties include but are not limited to:
- To work with the Associate Dean for Technology Platforms and Discovery Science and the Director of Core Facilities to lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the Technology Platforms’ strategy and procedures.
- To provide intelligence regarding external funding opportunities for key research infrastructure and equipment and assisting in the preparation and coordination of competitive proposals for such schemes.
- To manage internal schemes designed to facilitate the development of novel methodologies using our research infrastructure.
- To engage multidisciplinary partners, including cross-faculty researchers, partner research institutions, and equipment manufacturers, to access and develop novel technologies within our technology platforms.
- Promoting the capabilities of our research infrastructure amongst the local and wider research community.
- Providing analysis of the outputs of our technology platforms, and the impact on the wider university.
The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience in scientific management/strategy and a good understanding of the biomedical research landscape. In addition, candidates should have an academic qualification in a relevant subject or have demonstrable relevant professional experience supporting research development. Key qualities include the ability to influence and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders internally and externally, strategy development, and excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills.
